I used to retail about 50 items a month.
Now in 2018 I sell anywhere from 7 to 12 items per month.
I don't see why I should have a store anymore.

"I used to retail about 50 items a month"
What does that mean?

That means about $5500 in retail sales per month.

You should be able to do the math to determine if the store fees equal, or exceed the benefits derived from having a store.
You may need to raise your prices to get enough profit to make a store worthwhile

It depends not only one how many sales you make, but how many listings you maintain and the price you are selling items for.
You just need to do a calculation of your fees with the store vs without a store ... take into account the FVF discounts and the listing credits.
If both options are losing money or not worth your time, then a third options is just shutting down or changing your sales strategy from drop-shipping to something better.

I still have no idea what that phrase means.

WHAT GIVES??
It's your prices. Maybe on the other site you have a lot less competition. Here anyone can buy the same stuff you are selling for cheaper then you are offering.
