Start a Promotion & Sales drop completely

I was curious if anyone else has noticed that when you begin a promotion, sales will stop and it turns into a total ghost town. I have noticed this each time I run a promotion. I have noticed that I have more activity when I don't run a promotion. The last time I ran one was back during the beginning of Covid and I was noticing it around that time as well, I thought that maybe it was just because we are in a weird time for everyone. So, recently I thought I would test the waters again and run a promotion and sure enough....a total ghost town. Is this a thing that happens to anyone else? TIA!

Is this what used to be called 'markdown manager' where you put your store on sale?  If so I've never noticed any change in sales - in fact, it gives me a boost and I sell more because of percentage off.

If it's starting a promotion for sponsored listings, I also haven't noticed any change.

I wonder if starting the promotion (if it's the markdown) re-indexes everything and it takes a while to repopulate?  This happened to me once when I did a big bulk edit, and also when I've put my store on vacation and then returned and made my listings visible again.  There's some kind of indexing latency.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, what I do is I go to the promotions tab and click "Sale Event + Markdown" I used to do much better during a sale, of course. However, anytime I do this anymore it seems like my store goes into a "hidden mode" then, after I end the sale everything picks back up, so it's quite confusing.

It's just the eb & flo of selling on line. I've had sales pick up when putting items on sale and I've had them slow down when putting on sale. Has nothing to do with the sale.. just a matter of the right person viewing/looking for the item you are selling, competition etc. also matters..and ever more so, using Promotions as others items will show on YOUR listing instead of your listings if you don't use Promotions (not talking Markdowns/Sales here either)

It may be an odd coincidence, then.  You could do a round-about and use best offer and see if that has the same effect.

There has been a recent post about the drop off in sales related to this.  You might look for it.
