Stalkers

The New York Times recently published an article following the story of a blogger couple targeted by former eBay executives who allegedly systematically stalked and harassed them in a terror campaign that has resulted in multiple senior eBay employees facing charges.   I wonder how often this has happened?  I also wonder if you or I are next?  What do you think?

Don't know about you, but after seeing what happened to these guys I am pretty sure I will not be next. The consequences for harassing people are just too high! 🙂

But seriously  ...

I think the chances are almost zero. These guys lost their jobs, destroyed their reputations, and are facing charges. The company got a ton of bad publicity, and I doubt any eBay employee is going to be foolish enough to try this again.

This story is very old already and has had a ton of coverage on the boards. It's so old that 4 of the 6 accused exects have plead guilty as I understand. It's also all over YouTube.  If you want more details, you can find the info.

I do, however, think that I am very, very glad to live in a state that allows one to protect themselves.  Harm one hair on any of my family and the perp will wish they had never been born.

One of the accused will be shaping the minds of our future generations.  Don't know what his eBay involvement was, but hopefully those behaviors weren't of his doing.

Accused being the operative word.  They have not been arrested, charged or anything else with this case.  So while there are many that would just as soon call him guilty without due process, I don't hold the same opinion.

I firmly believe that all the people charged in this crime should have spend time in jail and pay restitution to Ina & David.  And if Wenig was part of it, hopefully one of the people charged will offer testimony and proof so that he too can be tired for his crimes, if he is / was part of this.

I think what this group of people did was horrific, wrong and without defense.  

In recent years we have given up many of our rights in this country and I personally have had enough.  I'm not willing to give up this right, even as much as I find this whole story disturbing and unredeemable.

7 individuals have been charged - so far.  Of those, 5 have recently agreed to plead guilty.

The two that have not pled guilty yet are James Baugh and David Harville.  Baugh was  Senior Director of Safety & Security and Harville was  Director of Global Resiliency, so they were fairly high up the chain.

There are also emails and text messages from then CEO Devin Wenig and then Communications Chief Steve Wymer saying things like "we are going to crush this lady" and "whatever it takes."

It was repeated yesterday on Pocket which shows a dozen stories from all over when you open your computer.

Sometimes the stories are years old.

OTOH, I don't think I'll be buying any GM products soon.

The whole point of the Times article is that they HAVE been charged.  That was how the story broke.

The story is popping up again due to more pleas.  Outside of that, the only person I'm really interested in seeing slammed is Wenig. The others are just minions - he's 'executive 1' who was fired for various reasons and is now sitting on the BOD at GM - for some reason.

I'm not too worried about somehow being stalked by eBay mid-management, though.
