If you seen the new Spring Update you likely seen that Ebay is increasing FVF's - again - that's the second time in a year!
Most categories will see fee increase, my main category I sell in will also, as store subscriber i get a "better" fee but why is it that ebay keeps raising the FVF's on media sellers...
Basic Store Subscribers and Up New Fees:
Music -
14.55% on total amount of the sale up to $2,500 calculated per item
2.35% on the portion of the sale over $2,500
Music - Records
11.7% on total amount of the sale up to $2,500 calculated per item
2.35% on the portion of the sale over $2,500
Before Managed payments I was paying 9.15% - entered into MP went to 11.5% - now less that 6 months 11.7% - luckily that isn't huge increase but media sellers with books get a whopping 14.55% - CD/DVD sellers 14.55% - that's with decreased rate of basic store and up subscription. Yes, media sells, but like anything, only to point, if the cost is too much, no buys, simple to understand and media sellers seem to get hit with the highest fees. I would like to see ebay have to purchase these mediums and then try to sell them at their FVF rates... how quickly those fees would decrease when they realize they can't make anything. As a buyer not just seller, have to see the overall costs, not just a case of FVF's, but the cost to obtain product has risen - the cost to have those products shipped to you have risen - the cost of shipping supplies has skyrocketed - have you seen the prices on boxes lately (even in bulk)? - the cost you have to charge buyers on product has risen - cost sellers have to pay for shipping has risen - thus the prices being charged by sellers on ebay has risen to meet the all those rising costs and pay ebay on a sale.
I haven't even gotten to other sections of the update yet... almost don't even want to look.

I have been selling on Ebay for 17 years now and every time we get a spring or Fall update I cringe. There is really never nothing good for sellers but more like ebay telling us some ridiculous new feature that is useless to the sellers and reaching intp our pocket again.

I was having difficulty adjusting to the 11.5%. This 12.55% is truly a hard pill to swallow! It's totally depressing!

So now we have to raise our prices to make up for fees. And then buyers won't pay that, and then sales go down.

As a book seller you know what shoe I am really afraid will drop? USPS to make more money by doing away with Media Mail, Priority Mail only. The way the USPS is nowadays, not much room for assuming some things are immune from change.

Did you see they're retiring the Wholesale book lots category? Splitting it up into categories by # of items in the lots.
03-03-2021 10:48 AM
I don't use that category but I am sure this change will hurt some sellers.

If you do lots they may force you into those categories though based on the # of items.

Of course the irony is that as the number of items being sold on Ebay increases the cost per item for Ebay decreases. It is a shame they don't put more of that revenue into customer service or advertising.

they won't, but the prices will continue to increase, that's the one promise you can count on 😉

I do sell plenty of lots, thanks for the heads up.

It's ridiculous! I mainly sell video games, and they're jumping from 9% to 12.5%. Consoles go from 4% to 6.5%. eBay need to stop stealing from its sellers. Also, the limited 90 day lookback is retarded. PayPal could look back 7 years!!

yup, I don't sell games anymore, I still do steelbooks, but only in bundles now... ebay destroyed the video game market while ago.

Just curious, but how did they destroy the video game market? I'm asking because I have a ton of games I was thinking of selling.

what I meant is it's very hard to make profit on video games, because everyone sells them the price ranges new or preowned can range from few bucks to $50. Games release xbox/PS they are $50-$60 (or higher for special, collectors, ultimate editions) but many within a month of release price drops about half that from retailers. Within a week-2 weeks of release pre-owned copies become available even cheaper. If you paying the current rate and then trying to sell them, well there is no profit to be made. You can still make money of course, just depends on what you payout for something and what you need in return when you sell it. I can get most any pre-owned game $10 and under, new $20 and under. But I have figured out way can make money on games and turn profit, I just did it last week actually and walked away with a nice wad of cash. Without ebay.
