Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

Under the changes to the invoice process on the Spring Seller update it says this:

  • Eventually, you will no longer receive a monthly billing invoice, but depending on your monthly invoice date, you may continue to receive invoices for both March and April. You must still pay any outstanding amounts that are reflected on billing invoices that you receive during this time. Charges will not be duplicated.

Has anyone seen this yet, I still can not pay my March invoice using my balance and if we are not going to receive invoices how is the money going to be collected.  Are you going to start each month with a negative balance until you sell enough to pay for your fees?  That would suck for paying for shipping.   Is any one on this new system yet to shed some light on how it is going to work?

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

As I recall when a monthly balance is due (say for a store subscription) it can be deducted from MP positive balance and after X amount of days the balance will be deducted from automatic payment method (checking account or credit card)

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

So, I didn't post the correct quote:

Beginning in late March, all of your eBay selling fees and expenses, including those that are currently invoiced, will be collected from your earnings. If your earnings are not sufficient to cover these amounts, we will charge your payment method on file (debit or credit card, and/or linked bank account).

Which does say if there is not enough in your balance they will deduct from your payment method.  but to me I read that the expectation is using you payment amount should be the exception not the rule.

I guess what I do not understand (or just curious on how it is to work).  is if there is no invoice and we still have a balance due date, which is a set day once a month, and payouts can only be set to daily or weekly,  your balance on any given day may not be enough to cover your "invoiced" amount, especially if you chose daily payouts.  You could pay manually  through out the month, but then they would have written the statement as you have the option to use your "balance" to pay  your "invoice" not that they will be "collected from your earning"

My thought is that they would divide your subscription by your payout cycle and you would accrue a negative amount daily or weekly to be deducted from your payout (i.e. a $40 subscription would  a $1.25  in fees deducted from a daily payout or $10 deducted from a weekly payout (these are rounded to 30 day or 4 week month for easy math and will not be the actual amounts) ) .  Promoted listing fees would be calculated at same time as final value fees and transaction fees so they never show up in your balance. Any listing fees would be deducted during the same payout cycle as they were accrued.  This is the only way I can see this working unless they get rid of subscriptions all together and increase other fees.

I still can not pay my invoice using my balance so I assume I am not converted.  I was hoping someone had already been on this new system and can shed some light on it. I hate being in the dark when they give vague references to potentially major changes.

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

I knew the quote you were referring to and it is still as I stated above, and once a month

True it could benefit some sellers by having  small deductions taken during the month say for store subscription but no way to do that for all the other fee's incurred, such as listing fee's and promoted listings.

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

For April, our only "invoiced" item was our Store Subscription.  However, since we are MP, they took that from our pending "payout" on 4/3 and when we received an actual March invoice, payable in April, it was zero.

The email they sent us made it sound as though if on MP, all fees (including Store, subscriptions, etc) will be deducted from our payout earnings and if there is not enough to do that, it defaults to our CC on file.

Personally, I would prefer to pay our store subscription to the CC on file, but not how they intend to do it based on what we just experienced for March invoice.

On MP, they take the fees from each sale before they send you the payout - you can do the shipping by using Paypal (we do) or have them deducted from the sale proceeds.  Are you not yet on MP?  If no, you can manage your shipping as you go along with each sale, once you switch to MP.

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

I am on managed payments and have been for awhile.  This is supposed to be a change within managed payments.  currently my FV and processing fees are taking out at point of sale, my ad fees and subscription fees (as well as any credits or misc fees) are invoiced.  I have selected weekly payouts so most of my shipping is using my balance except on the payout day (I have requested that they allow a minimum balance to be held in reserve to cover this, I was told this was a common request maybe they will do this).  I  currently can not use my balance to pay my invoice.  I was paying it on a weekly basis, prepaying my invoice but only using my on file payment method.

For April, our only "invoiced" item was our Store Subscription.  However, since we are MP, they took that from our pending "payout" on 4/3 and when we received an actual March invoice, payable in April, it was zero.

I find this interesting, because this is not how it sounded in the Spring update.  If your payout is the day of or day before the funds may not have been there.  and you can not opt at this point to have a monthly payout after the invoice has processed.

Anyway thanks for the update,

Re: Spring Seller Update Invoice Changes

Interesting. I want those monthly fees paid on the credit card.  I'll start cancelling the store and so forth if they take it out of my sales before I see the money.
