Sponsored Listing Question

I would like to start this by saying that it is NOT a complaint thread. I am genuinely looking for help only.

Thank you kindly in advance.

My issue: I have set most of my listings to be sponsored several weeks back. Today I am searching for my items and even though they are sponsored they are appearing at the bottom of searches. However IF it sells ebay is still charging me extra for the sponsored listing even though it isn't really sponsored if it just appears at the bottom with the rest of the normal listings. So I'm a little confused. Is anyone else seeing this? How can I correct this?

As an example listing you can search for : Playmobil 4240

My listing in question is the one with the title:

Playmobil 4240 Egyptians Pyramid - Missing 1 tiny part w/ Game CD & Manual

This item appears pretty much at the end of the search results way at the bottom. There are only four others lower than mine. It still says "Sponsored" on it but I am failing to see how it is sponsored way down at the bottom below items that are not sponsored. And if it sells, since it is the only one listed, ebay will still charge me the extra fees for a sponsored listing. Is this a glitch that is occurring or is there another issue at play that I should know about?

Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

They don't guarantee the placement position.......but also remember that the sponsored stuff appears in other places.......along the side bars, in the "suggested" /similar line of listings within other listings.  You don't pay anything unless it sells.

Thank you for your reply... Interesting... Is 24th down sponsored? And why, if it is sponsored, is it showing below so many items that are NOT sponsored?

Thank you for the reply. I see. I have tried to read as much as I can regarding the sponsored listings to try to gain a proper understanding of how it works but this confused me a bit. Thanks again for your time.

Sponsored Listing Question

Promoted listings is designed for you to pay higher fees......the end.

Its not going to put you at the top all the time just like the non promoted listings do not. It also is not always being shown as sponsored. It will run for a while as sponsored ans will run for a while as not. If anyone ever clicks the listing while sponsored you will pay the higher fee even if the item is purchased while not sponsored.

Promoted listings was sold to us as a way to get seen more because it added a 2nd or duplicate listing. That was quickly turned into a lie when ebay chose to only run one listing at a time. So you are literally paying more for the exact visibility everyone else gets only..........your sponsored listing wont always show in search where it should when people use filters and many people will ignore your listing when its at the top and says sponsored because it looks just like the sponsored ad links you get on search engines that we all ignore.

How is that a lie?  They changed the way it works and informed us it would be changed.

JUST TAGGING . . .

So, even as the OP stated this is not a complaint thread, it's interesting to see how quickly we can turn it into one.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I respect your feelings on the sponsored listings but was searching more for just the information on how ebay states that they work which I believe that I received.  But I do appreciate the sharing of your insights. Have a good day.

Hi @rdjsystemservices, I'm happy to clarify! There are specific slots for Sponsored listings on search pages. Some are higher on the page while others are lower. The Ad Rate you select compared with the Ad Rate of other promoted items will determine the Sponsored slot placement your item receives. Basically, if your Ad Rate is lower than competitor Ad Rates, your Sponsored item will appear below theirs.

It's also important to note that either the Sponsored listing or organic listing will appear in search. Both organic and Sponsored will not appear at the same time in search results. If your organic listing would appear higher in search than the promoted listing, then only the organic listing would appear. If your promoted listing is higher in search than your organic listing, then only the promoted listing will appear. Organic listing placement is based on our Best Match algorithm, while promoted listings are based on our Best Match algorithm AND the Ad Rate selected.

Sponsored Listing Question

I have a couple sponsored listings,I started with 6 percent and saw nothing

ebay says I am a piker and the competition is higher,it says so right along side it

I raised the rate to 11-12 percent maybe, same thing,no change to the top

its a bad joke if you ask me,i get good billing when I refine the search

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my inquiry.

I do see and understand now. I didn't quite understand the "slots" component that was being used and thought that it was just a static setting where if a person promoted their listing it would always appear towards the top for better visibility. But I see how the different slots throughout the search would affect this. I will take that information on board.

Thank you again
