Special Duration Fee, where is it explained or mentioned?

Notice a $1 special duration fee, on a $10 item.  Obviously I would not have knowingly selected an action that resulted in this fee.  I came here to search, many questions over the years with no answers.  I think it has something to do with a 10 day auction, or changing to a 10 day auction.  Can someone please tell me

1. Where this is mentioned or explained by ebay? and or

2. When and Why this is charged?

3. How I can ask ebay to credit this fee, if possible.

I realize it's 'only' $1, but I had no notice that it was going to be charged.  It would be nice if there was a 'pop up' or a notification during listing that it would apply (perhaps there was, and I didn't notice)

TIA for help.

The duration fee is mentioned here:  Selling fees

Which length auction did you select?

Since it's clearly stated on the Selling Fees help page, I'm not sure why eBay would give you a credit for it. You can try to reach them via customer service, though. Maybe they'll grant your request.

@anasazirose

Sorry I missed your second post while I was composing my reply.

You were charged the $1 fee for selecting a 3-day auction. eBay discourages sellers from listing such short-duration auctions because they feel it does not provide the maximum buyer experience to have just one or three days before the auction ends.

You'll want to read the entire page I linked in my Message #3 to make sure you're aware of all the seller fees that could affect you as you conduct your eBay selling business.

Re: Special Duration Fee, where is it explained or mentioned?

I realize this is hindsight, but when you initially setup the listing....the very last line item before your "List" Button (at the bottom) it shows "Fees: XX.XX"

"(Pop-up) Click on the amount to see a breakdown of your fees. "

It probably would have shown $1.00 as a listing fee prior to submitting for the 3-day option.....

Thank you so much.  I did not see that chart.  If I did, I obviously didn't read it.  I just figured I wouldn't have any special auctions.  This tea set has been listed multiple times, and I've been told to end auctions on Sunday, so I must've listed it on a Thursday.  I hope I didn't do that with any others.  AND, you're right, it's clearly stated, so I won't even request it back.  Thank you so very much.  I'm still new at trying to sell a lot and am trying to not make mistakes.

Thank you, it may have.  I'm so used to that being 0 that I probably just clicked.

Re: Special Duration Fee, where is it explained or mentioned?

It was a 10 day auction.  Could this have happened if I started it as a 7 day, then changed it to a 10 day (adding 3 days)?

Re: Special Duration Fee, where is it explained or mentioned?

Thank you.  I opened chat, and got transferred twice. The 3rd rep to chat is issuing a credit. Taking about 10-15 minutes.  So, I'm making about $4 an hr, but I don't like mistakes.  Be nice if I could charge ebay some sort of fee for an error, lmbo.

Re: Special Duration Fee, where is it explained or mentioned?

I was charged, also, without notice (or if I was, it was hidden in the fine print). Sadly, I will likely be charged more of them, as selling on eBay was such a hassle, I decided to just end several auctions early (and I had no notice I would be charged extra for doing so). I used to sell on eBay all the time, but now they charge SO much (what used to be $1 is now nearly $3), and I make so very little, I will not be using them again. Not to mention, apparently, even 'tho I have a Paypal account, they want me to update the info on it, and I have spent hours trying to deal with that....I got locked out of my bank account trying to get it done!  It sure would have been nice to know that I had no way to receive payment when I listed it, rather than after I sold it! All said and done, I figure I am earning about $2, and am out a lovely ring that I was sure would go for much more, not to mention all the hours and hassle!

Take a look at post #3 which was chosen as the solution in this thread.  It provides a link to the basic Help page about fees for sellers who don't have a store subscription, and it also provides a screen shot of that page's section which mentions the $1 fee for choosing an auction duration of 1 or 3 days.

Also, when you are setting up a listing, the bottom of the listing form, near the button you choose to launch the listing, will show you  the fees that will be incurred when the listing begins.
