I sent a package (First Class) to someone from Chile on Nov 10. Got a message from her today, asking about the package since tracking showed that it dropped off the face of the earth on Nov 12, in Jamaica, New York.
I know that tracking does stop for shipments to some countries at exit point, but... Is there anything else I can do for her besides to tell her to sit tight? It's only been 4 weeks, and I'm reading that it can take longer than that for a First Class Packaget to get from the US to Chile. I do have insurance for this package, but it's probably too early to file, no? I know when I sent a package to Malaysia before and tracking cut off at U.S. Exit point, there's a Malaysian postal site you can go to, enter the tracking and get the results of tracking where USPS left off.
Is there a similar site for Chile? Has any one sent a First Class package there before? What's the average or longest waiting time y'all have seen? Anything else to do besides to wait? First time I sent something to South America... because I thought I'd try something new! LOL!
Thanks in advance!

I haven't recently sent a package to Chile. So can't help you there.
I would first check with the insurance company to see how long you have to wait to file a claim. Based on that info, I'd approach the buyer and ask her/him to wait the extra time in order to see if the package gets delivered. I would also suggest to the buyer to go to their local office where they might have to pay any import charges/vat for an overseas package and see if the package is being held. Thirdly, I would google "Chile Postal Services" just to see if they might track US pkgs within Chile, some countries do.
Otherwise, good luck!

I was under the impression that FIRST CLASS--did not provide any foreign Tracking. That it stops as soon as the Item leaves the USA. And I know some foreign countries cannot provide Tracking for anything imported. I think this depends on how good each Country's Postal system is.

USPS does show delivery (supposedly) to certain countries under E-USPS-DELCON INTL.

Thank you all!
And thanks for the link above. Unfortunately, the tracking ID I got from USPS didn't give any results. Sigh...

Try inputting the number on the USPS customs form, both here (US) and on the correos site.

The customs number and tracking number on a prepaid FCI package is the same number.
When you print FCI, the customs form is incorporated. Single page for eDELCON, 3 page for non-eDELCON.

I ship to Chile a few times a year, 4 weeks is "normal", in the slow season if it's going to Santiago or close by then maybe 3 weeks. At this time of year 4+ weeks would not be at all unusual.
Of all the South American countries I've had the least issues with Chile & Ecuador.

Yeah, I thought about that, after the fact. I keep forgetting - or trying to forget - that so many folks use online for EVERYTHING. I still trundle over to the post office. A couple of workers started working there and have retired since I started going there.

I think this happens too frequently. I have sent 3 packages so far using USPS 1st class and all have gone missing. Seeing that I am not the only seller, I will stop selling merchandises to Chile.
