Hello Everyone!
Beware, as eBay platform has a major vulnerability that hackers exploit. I recently got a message from eBay stating that two of my crypto miners sold for almost 10,000 US dollars. The app main screen read "Paid Ship Now" so I shipped the items. There was also a "Note to Self" note by the hacker "funds on hold until 7/27" for a purchase on 7/3!!!! Sure enough the funds never were deposited by eBay and 7/27/22 I called and it turns out "there was never a payment for this item" and "you made a keystroke marking the item paid" one minute after it was purchased. Are you freaking kidding me? Following are facts:
1) Someone logged into my account from Texas July 3. I live in San Diego and was visiting family in Arkansas.
2) They marked the item as paid
3) Their account sometime between July 3 and July 27 was suspended for abuse of the eBay system
4) They had an international forwarding address in Miami, so by the time I caught up with the fraud the miners were well out of the country.
So far, eBay has simply said they escalated the case for higher review. I swear if they don't apply the seller guarantee here, I will call them everyday and tweet them twice a day until they take some responsibility and file a law suit if need be. This has happened before, per a google search and searching these message boards!

There maybe a lot of could haves that people are posting here. However, no matter what you could have, should have if someone stole from you, they stole form you doesn't matter what you did. I would push eBay hard and file a police report if you can. You can also make a report to the Better Business Bureau. bbb.org
If someone logged into your account from a different city then where you were/live that is a security red flag. No doubt to complete that kind of transaction they would have provide credentials a couple of times.

A buyer in the past has been able to mark a purchase of theirs as "Payment Sent" (to be clear, it did not say "Paid"), back when your payment options included mailing the seller a Check or Money Order. The seller would also see the listing as "Payment Sent" (not "Paid"). Assuming that the payment did arrive and the seller was okay with it, the seller (not the buyer) could then change the status to genuinely Paid via "Mark as Payment Received," and ship after that.
Over in my buying account, I don't have any purchases waiting for me to pay for them, so I don't know if "Payment Sent" still exists as a buyer option, but I'm wondering here whether that buyer action is somehow being misinterpreted by the mobile app as a Paid notification rather than a check's-in-the-mail promise. The mobile app has had its share of bugs in the past, so I can't say that I'm totally surprised if that is the case. Viewing the transaction on a laptop or desktop should give a more-clear picture about whether a payment was ever actually received.

Ya, it’s been posted that ps5’s are a target like this as well. I’ve seen 3 posts like this one in last 6 months

No I don't. It has not presented a problem to me in all the years I've been on Ebay, I don't expect it to suddenly present one now. Buyers have always been able to do this.
Keep in mind that for Ebay there is no buyer protection for them. They have to prove payment. Besides the seller can go and change that to item not paid easy enough too. It simply doesn't have to be a big deal.

Whatever happened with this?

The OP is no longer an ebay user. I guess will never know since this was posted last July. You can always open a new thread should you have a problem and need advice. Lots of great helpfuls here on this forum.
