What is this about?
Just received this e-mail notice from eBay. The first I have ever seen on this subject.
I have credits and then charges, but they don't make sense.
this is the e-mail:
|
The US Postal Service has some cost adjustments on your shipping labels. We attempted to charge or credit your account based on whether you underpaid or overpaid. |
If you think these adjustments are incorrect, you can contact USPS Customer Care at 1-844-819-5187 or email verifypostagehelp@usps.gov to open a dispute. USPS will respond within 5-15 business days. |
this report I just received goes back to March 1, 2022, but this the first time I have ever seen such a report
I guess eBay's shipping input information on listings are not valid / true???? I have a scale and weigh items as needed.
example:
this was for a UCLA basketball jersey size XL

This is why I download and keep my labels and receipts prior to printing.

Its called a money grab. They feel you wont go through all the hassle and through the hops trying to save a few bucks. Dont forget awaiting for their reply....... Then you have to provide proof of said size and weight that you claimed when purchasing the shipping label. If you think that's bad. Have you tried claiming insurance damage on priority mail lately from USPS. Good luck with that. Denied !!!!! Thank you for using USPS.
Have a nice day.

This is common for the past 5+ years.
I received a total of 4, 3 of which were 'credits'.
1 was a charge for a 26"x6"x6" Triangle Priority Box that I send items that weigh somewhere in the 2-4 lb range.
The charge was for $50+ saying the item weighed 40 lbs or so. Not possible and I don't think if I filled that box with liquid lead, it would weigh that much.
I did as the message stated- "if you have an issue- contact blah blah".
I did
I won my money back
I suggest doing the same.

Just got this email too and had 10 of the underpaid adjustments so just filed a dispute with USPS - probably wasted my time. Your examples look just like mine and do not make any sense as I also weigh and measure my packages so something is definitely wrong here! I will have to stop printing labels from Ebay and either stand in line at the Post Office (Ugh, nobody has time for that!) or stand in-line at UPS (another Ugh!).
I hope more people comment on this so that we have proof that something is WRONG with the system, and we are not at fault & shouldn't have to pay!
The representative that I spoke to said that the lady before me had 60 of these 'adjustments' and they can only take 10 per call! Imagine that 😓

If you have multiple instances it might be your scale.

thank you for your reply
I print my order information for my records. I then order / print my labels
I will stand in line at the post office to get a receipt of acceptance. I will never just drop off at the counter and walk away hoping that they scan acceptance.
Interesting thing is that when the USPS customer service clerk puts my packages on the scale and scans the pre-printed label that a bought through eBay does not say a thing about if I paid too much or less.

I can just say that I
purchase labels on ebay and have about 100 packages per week, 5000 per year, for 12 years (60,000 +/-) , every one of them shipping USPS
and I NEVER went to a post office (all picked up by carrier from the front porch) and again, had this happen less than I can count on 1 hand.
I believe a 'rare' glitch- but if it's common; use your scale and then compare it to another scale (buy another one or have Post Office check) as stated by @toysvan may very well be your scale.

I've had this happen about 10 times, and almost all of them were in my favor. It would say I overpaid for a 12oz package because it was only 1oz, but it actually did weigh 12. Very strange. They have charged me small amounts for underpaid errors, which were also false, but I let it go because I'm still coming out ahead.

Bingo!
yet I stand in line to get a receipt of acceptance, and nothing is ever said by the USPS customer representative that I may owe or should get a refund after they scan my packages on scale.

The problem is with USPS not properly weighing packages. The machines at their distribution centers will malfunction at times and not record the correct weight.
Back in 2015, USPS charged me hundreds of dollars in inflated fees, claiming my packages were the wrong weight. They said my 8 ounce video game packages weighed like 5 or 10 lbs, which is not even remotely possible.
I had to fight with USPS for several months to get my money back. Even then, they only refunded some of what they stole from me, not all of it.

This ^^^^^^^
We've had it happen twice lately where we had to address it from a USPS scale scan malfunction.

That's because it's not their job any more. Collecting postage due is now done through the Automated Package Verification system at sorting centers. This replaces staff time collecting underpaid postage either at the sender's Post Office counter, or at the front door of the unfortunate buyer.

Exactly! I was literally being charged like $20 to $40 to ship a package that weighed 8 ounces or less.
Imagine shipping out a $10 game and getting slapped with $40 shipping charges for it a few weeks later. I was livid!
USPS can't even get package dimensions right either, they mess those up too.

I went to the post office to ship a few packages this morning. I asked the clerk if she could tell me the weight of one my packages that I determined was under 13 oz. per my scale for first class. It matched! 8.9 oz.
I told the clerk when I go to print a label through eBay, it shows first class at 15.9 oz or less with a generous dim measurement that I thought was way off.
She told me that 13 oz or less is first class. Above that is priority.
Is eBay and the USPS not in sync?
