Re: Sold item

It sounds like the buyer tried to return them but you refused to allow the return. Is that what happened?

Re: Sold item

It sounds like the buyer filed an INAD and you refused to accept the return, so Ebay stepped in and took care of the buyer.

Next time, if you want the item returned before refunding, accept the return and pay return shipping.

Have a great day.

Very sorry for your situation, but on Ebay no returns does not mean no refunds.  Honestly, Ebay is not the place to sell gold bullion.  Almost a guaranteed scam every time. Next time sell it locally to a pawn broker or a jewelry store that buys precious metals and get cash.  Less headaches and issues like this one.

Re: Sold item

Your previous listings say you do not accept returns. No returns doesn't  mean no refunds. If you don't  immediately provide a return label and accept the return eBay will step in and refund and tell the buyer they don't  have to return it.

Re: Sold item

Buyer buys item.

Buyer not happy with the item.

Buyer initiates a return.

Seller accepts the return and pays for return shipping label.

When the item is returned, seller issues buyer  a refund.

If  the item isn't returned, seller is not charged for the return shipping label, buyer does not get a refund.

If the buyer got a refund without returning the item,  you probably did something wrong.

Re: Sold item

There are some details missing in your post. What type of case did the buyer open with eBay and how did you respond? As others mentioned precious metals are an ideal target for scammers as it is easy to resell on the scrap market. Regardless of whether you specified no returns, which doesn't help, the buyer could have just as easily returned 13.5 grams of rocks.

Also your listing description states UK bidders only but your shipping preferences include a LOT more countries. Where did this actually ship to? As a side note you sold 13.5 grams of 18K white gold for about $502 USD and the current spot price on 18K white gold is $47.94 USD per gram or about $646 USD. You could probalby have done better selling it to a precious metals broker locally.

Re: Sold item

Since you are in the UK, your may care to post to the UK eBay Community forums.   eBay policies and procedures, and the civil law pertaining to them, vary somewhat.

Not to mention the eBay fees and shipping costs that further erode the transaction value.

Re: Sold item

Buyer buys a professional graded hockey card

Buyer puts in an INAD claim (which is ridiculous)

Buyer does not wait for a return shipping label

Buyer, supposedly, mails the item back without proof of tracking

Seller & eBay have no proof item was returned

eBay closes case in buyer's favor & gives refund

Re: Sold item

The problem is reflected in the feedback, here:

"I am still awaiting a returns postage label from eBay so I can return and get my money back."

Let me elaborate:

It has to do with how the actual ebay code works, most of these cases are solved by programming algorithms (bots as some would call it) and thus the results are usually very black or white.

That having been said...
Your item's returns policy states "No Returns Accepted."
I believe the problem is that with these particular policies ebay does not automatically issue a label as it would with a regular returns policy, the seller must instead follow a work-around procedure. So the buyer is not lying, there simply was never a label issued.

Either that...

Or the buyer is simply stalling with the actual return because ebay's MBG (Money Back Guarantee) does not require the return to be completed in order for the algorithm to issue the refund.

In the end however it doesn't actually matter which, the fact this refund was issued does mean that ebay had to step in and force the refund, so to speak... That means you also have a defect for this trouble, but what matters here is this buyer is most likely not returning the merchandise (and most certainly not without a label). Whether the failure of the return is intentional can not be determined, one way to take this another step forward is to get a return label to your buyer some kind of way, and see if that "frees" up the item to be returned. Beyond that you would more than likely have to pursue this matter through legal channels if you wish for this to be resolved another way than present; whether the cost in terms of finances and time is worth that is something only you can decide.

I know this probably hasn't been very helpful, I am sorry for that, I want to be honest and transparent with you because I do not believe that sugarcoating helps much either.

Peace be with you

@benson.0154

You might want to check to see if your auto return feature is not turned on.  There is a feature now with returns.  Ebay automatically enables it to accept returns as soon as the buyer files a claim.  They get their refund instantly and they don't have to return the item.  Here's link you can tap into and see if it's helpful.  One of the other posters posted a similar link here on the forum.  Mine and several others here were turned on to that feature, which I would have never opted into.  I accept returns and they are free.  However I want my item back to re sell.

Again, here's the link:

Good luck to you.
