Hello, I recently sold an item and the buyer paid for it. I go to ship the item, then a hour later the buyer said they brought it on accident. Seems kinda suspicious, what should I do?

You should cancel the sale. If you do not it is very likely that the buyer will make a false Not As Described claim costing you the cost of the return postage and a possible negative feedback.
To cancel the sale go to your Orders or Sold list find the transaction and in the drop down menu on the right Cancel this order. Select Buyer requested cancellation as the reason. Then continue to finish.
Because the buyer had already paid when you refund them paypal is going to keep their 2.9% + .30 cents fee of the total paid. Tell that to the buyer and refund the total less those fees.

How is the OP going to get their item back?

The OP wrote "I go to ship the item, then a hour later the buyer said they brought it on accident" which i took to mean they did not complete the shipping process or take it to the P.O.. If they did print out the label, they'll have to wait 30 days to get a refund from PayPal for it.
If they did ship the item that's a whole different kettle of fish, and their only option would be to try and do an intercept if they used USPS. Then they would have to charge the buyer for that fee as well which I think costs around $11.

The buyer said they opened a claim, but if they did shouldn’t I have received a email about it cause I did not. Or should I call eBay to see if one was really created? Also can I cancel when I already shipped? And if he just returns it without starting a claim and I say no returns what will happen ?

How was this item shipped??
If possible and based on cost; do an intercept on the package now.
This has become on of the many many ways to scam a seller.
Simply put they may get an item for free.
They wait until item is shipped and then do the cancel request.
As others have advised: the buyer still can do a return when and if they receive the item.
On your blocked bidders list NOW.
They will still be able to communicate through eBay on this item but can not do further damage on other listings with that ID.

when was the estimated time of arrival for the item ?....don't see how they could have filed a claim before then.Whatever you do don't refund till you get your item back.

If the buyer had actually opened a claim or attempted to cancel the transactions you would have received a message from eBay. What kind of claim did your buyer say they made? Unfortunately, you can't cancel a transaction if the item has already shipped. The buyer needs to return the item, and you only refund after getting your item back. However, if it just shipped I would try and intercept the package. I would do this and charge the buyer for the intercept and original shipping. Make sure all communication is through eBay messages. There is no point in making a buyer keep an item they don't want as they will just lie to get around it. Worse they could damage it, and make it impossible for you to resell. They have already said they made the purchase by mistake. However, that may have occurred so I would go for the intercept while you can. Block this buyer too as the amount of steps it takes to make a purchase. If you haven't taken the package to the post office you can cancel the shipping label.
How does USPS Package Intercept work? There is a Package Intercept fee of $14.65 that applies to all intercepted shipments. Commercial customers who purchase postage online can also submit their Package Intercept request online.
