So the buyer had the wrong address in PayPal.

So the buyer had the wrong address in PayPal. The Buyer says it was his fault, a 7 should have been a 9. USPS tracking says unable to deliver problem with address & the item is coming back to me. What's  the correct thing to do? Is it OK just to take the loss of the cost (as a courtesy) and just ship it again to the correct address he gave me in messages or do I have to cancel the transaction and refund him.

So the buyer had the wrong address in PayPal.

The time it takes for the item to come back and for you to resend it, will that result in a late shipment.

Probably,

That is why there is the makes sense way (just resend) and the ebay way ( cancel transaction - problem with address, relist, have buyer repurchase, and send it out.

Just make sure buyer updates his paypal address first to show the correct address.

You might be able to shmooze your local PO into putting it through again, if you can explain that you have now confirmed the correct address with the recipient. Be diplomatic; they don't have to do that for you. You have nothing to lose by trying (as long as you can also obliterate whatever "Return to Sender" markings might have been scrawled on it).

Worst-case scenario: send your buyer a PayPal invoice for new postage. Don't print a new label through your eBay sale for that item, as it will supersede your previous label and be counted as a late shipment.

Thanks, for the advice about the label.  I'm not worried about paying for shipping again as a courtesy. I just don't want to violate any policy. When it gets back to me is it OK just to send it back to the correct address, without printing any labels or postage from EBay or PayPal. Just take to the PO and sent it to the right address?

I decided to cancel with problem with address as the reason, refund then relist it when I get the item back. Thanks for the advise.

Here's a follow up question, after I cancel and refund is the buyer still able to leave me feedback?
