Recently been looking for some isopropyl alcohol 70% because, you know, virus and all. And Walmart has been sold out of it each time i've gone. Come to eBay and find this item:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Swan-Rubbing-Alcohol-70-16-oz/44691439
which sells for $1.24 at Walmart, selling on eBay for roughly 10-25 times the cost.
So these people scoop them up as soon as Walmart or whoever puts the inventory out so those of us who actually need to buy this stuff and refuse to pay $20 for a bottle that costs $1.
Isn't this why eBay got sued? Is this allowed now on eBay? I reported no less than 200 of these listings before I gave up two days ago and they're all still up, none were removed.
This is appalling.

When doing your search click on the lowest first option. I easily saw 25 bottles for under $15 shipped directly to you home. You do know that an Ebay seller must pay roughly 15% to Ebay and Paypal plus approximately $6 postage to get it safely to your home ?

you seem to be missing the point...
Yes. Thank you for educating me that it costs money to sell on eBay. I'm well aware. But thank you for that.
These people buy up all the inventory to sell on eBay and by doing so create inventory shortages purely for greed. We're in the middle of a pandemic. That's not legal. eBay is allowing it for some reason. This stuff isn't even supposed to be sold on eBay, I was under the assumption they were banning selling all of this stuff. The point in sites like eBay banning sellers from selling this stuff then stops them from hoarding it in the store and thereby allowing regular people to buy it for a reasonable retail price of $1.24, not multiples of that. Not everyone can afford to drop tons of money on necessities to keep healthy and safe thru a national emergency.
So i'm looking for someone who knows more than I do regarding whether or not selling this stuff is now allowed or not. N

Yes, Ebay is allowing certain sellers to sell those type items. If you already know, as you say, about the postage and the fees you should also know they are not gouging.

Well it irritates me that when gasoline was priced high Regular unleaded was around $3.00 a gallon while Premium was at $3.60 a gallon, fair enough... But now that prices have come way down Runl is around $1.82 a gallon while Premium is $2.42 a gallon!!! That's gouging, why if the prices came down is there still a 60 cent gap between the two fuels?!!
Oh never mind your mom and pop folks, this is happening at big name fueling stations that are all part of these big corporations! They are stealing from us! Help!!! Help!!!

No, you're wrong, it is gouging. I just got a reply from CS about it. It is in fact gouging and we're to continue reporting it. They're working to remove the listings but they're backed up, according to the rep.

You can purchase 2 32ozs bottles from Walmart online for about $10.14 and have them shipped directly to your home. If you purchase $35.00 or more then shipping is FREE!
eBay sellers are not Walmart! I am here to make dollars not dimes.

Walmart sells lots of stuff for cheap. That doesnt mean people have to match their prices. lol. People setting their prices higher than Walmart doesnt equal price gouging. If you dont like the price dont buy it. Use warm water and soap. Its cheaper than buying alcohol and equally as effective if not more.

Here Walmart is selling 2 bottles for $3.92. If you order 35$+ you get free shipping.

So the answer to your original post ("So is eBay back to allowing price gouging?") is apparently "no".

Perhaps the listings the OP is complaining about ARE price gouging.
If that's the case, no, ebay does not allow it. They try and cancel those listings but they can't catch all of them. Some slip through.
Those listings you're talking about, try check them an hour or a day later, most will be gone.

2 - 16oz bottles for $29.99 plus $15 for shipping.
Yes, that's price gouging. And while i find that appalling, my bigger issue here is what happens when sellers are allowed to do this. They hoard these supplies and buy them all up once they're put on the shelf, adding to the already high demand and very low supply for products that people need. If people know they are allowed to then resell them on eBay for a huge markup, that will only increase the shortages. But I did hear back from eBay customer service, these instances are in fact gouging and they're working to get them removed but they are backlogged, according to them, I don't know if that was just lip service to get me to back off or if they're genuinely overwhelmed trying to keep on top of sellers pulling this **bleep**.
@go-bad-chicken, @perrance78 I understand none of us are Walmart and we're all here selling to make money, but if you think it's ok to rip people off on essential items during a national emergency by buying and hoarding valuable inventory solely for the purpose of jacking up the price then I'd suggest you should probably re-think your priorities... That's not ok.

Yes I would say that "2 - 16oz bottles for $29.99 plus $15 for shipping" is gouging.
BUT in your original OP you stated:
"........and refuse to pay $20 for a bottle that costs $1."
That I do not believe to gouging. I did the math and a seller selling you a $32ozs bottle of alcohol for $20, I presumed shipping was included. By my math that seller made somewhere around $6.50 in profit. I am not in the business of selling these types of products, they have no interest to me whatsoever. But if I did I would want to be making some money for my efforts. And its that away with everything that I choose to sell.
Maybe if eBay began sharing with its sellers that Walmart size postage discount that it receives from the USPS, we could get that bottle of alcohol's cost down.

LOL Seriously?
The point of this is Isopropyl Alcohol isn't supposed to be sold right now as it's an essential product during a pandemic. PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BE HOARDING THIS STUFF WHEN IT HITS SHELVES. THEY SHOULD BUY WHAT THEY NEED AND LEAVE IT THERE FOR ANYONE ELSE TO BUY IT FOR $1.24, NOT BUY ALL OF IT JUST TO SELL IT FOR A MASSIVE MARK UP ON EBAY.
Christ on a pogo stick. You're missing the entire point here.

You are probably right about me missing the point.

think of it this way. A vaccine comes out for the virus, they make 300 million vaccines and the vaccine costs $1 each, the idea that everyone can afford the vaccine. Then some rich person goes and buys all 300 million vaccines, not for themselves, but to sell on ebay for $149.99 each. Something that's necessary that's also cheap, some jerk buys them up, creating a shortage, and increases the price way too much because they can.
Granted this is an oversimplified, unrealistic scenario, but it's the same situation with the isopropyl alcohol, among many necessary staples people need right now. Wouldn't you be a little upset with the person who bought up all the vaccines for the sole purpose of profiting off of them during a national emergency?
