So do I tattle? Or neg? Or MMOB?

Just received the holiday stationery I ordered. Arrived inside a Priority Mail cardboard envelope shoved inside an eBay bubble mailer, with a Media Mail label. Shipping was listed as free economy.

1. Do I mind my own business leaving positive feedback for the item being as described and arriving in a timely enough manner?

2. Do I write an educational email to the seller (+300 positive feedback, sells all sorts of items) explaining the evils of using PM supplies for non-PM packages and sending non-media items by MM, asking him not to do it in the future? If he flames me I'd neg the snot out of him, if he responds politely I'd likely leave no feedback at all.

3. Do I march over to the post office with my Santa paper and the packaging and rat them out? I can almost guarantee that the charity ladies who (wo)man the post office around the block won't know how to retroactively charge the seller, which means I'll have to go to the other post office. I'm disinclined to put myself out that much.

Any options I'm overlooking? I'm inclined to option #2. I'd add that I often don't bother to log out of my selling account and go to the effort of moving over to my buying account for small sales. In this case I did use my buying account -- wouldn't dare cause a ruckus on my selling account for fear of retaliation. And if he blocks me that's fine because there's a million to one chance I'd stumble upon him again anyway when making a new purchase.

I think they put the Amazon Prime tape on all of their packages... as advertising.

Unless you got a gift receipt in the box, it may not have been an Amazon Prime exploitation but an FBA/Multi-Channel Fulfillment

Yeah, I just ordered something last week that was from FBA (a third-party seller) and the box showed up with Prime tape on the box.

No.

Re: So do I tattle? Or neg? Or MMOB?

Personally, I'd do #3, because the seller is not only being dishonest, they're outright stealing.  Unused stationary isn't eligible for Media Mail, so they're cheating the post office out of postage, plus they're misusing Priority Mail packaging for non-Priority Mail.  It'd be one thing if they were a new seller, but if they sell on a regular basis, they know darn well what they're doing.

Re: So do I tattle? Or neg? Or MMOB?

I would file form 16-708944B and keep the pink copy in case they do this again.

Make a report online, and download forms 2041661-G  and 2041659-A (pages 4-19) and fill those out, You will need those when it's time to complete the Probably Cause Affadavit. The packaging (all of it should be photographed and the label preserved) is to be kept. Once you have your intial report filed online, you will be sent your portion of the probable cause affadavit to fill out. There will be a place to enclose digital photos of the packaging. Once this is sent, you will hear from someone withing a fortnight, but it usually isn't long. They may require that you complete form 203-59924 in it's enitirety. This becomes a permanent legal document and will be used when the violator is sentenced to re-education camp and fined. The investigators (Directorate B) may ask to come to you and retreive the packaging.  If you have all of it, this will help them greatly. "Why neg?"

1. The seller used Priority Mail materials and did not pay for Priority Mail postage.

2. The seller shipped the stationery via Media Mail, which is not allowed.

I get all that BUT I wouldn't neg. Not my job to do the enforcing for USPS--it's theirs. I get my item in the condition I expected it, in the time I expected it and I'm happy.

Do you plan on buying more from this seller? If you do than leave a positive or no feedback at all. Any negative comment in feedback or to the seller will get you blocked.

Re: So do I tattle? Or neg? Or MMOB?

Wrong to do?  Yes

Was the buyer harmed? No

Did the buyer get the item ordered in the expected time?  Apparently

Rate the transaction as it pertains to eBay.

Anything else such as stealing shipping materials from USPS is wrong, but it has nothing to do with the buyer experience.

Its like dinging for slow shipping when a seller ships same day, and the carrier takes 14 days for an expected 4 day arrival.  eBay logic is the seller chose the carrier, and is responsible for whatever that carrier does.

Re: So do I tattle? Or neg? Or MMOB?

It is apparent that the seller fulfilled their committment as a retailer under the Ebay requirements. How they conducted themselves with regards to morality is another issue, and it's not my business. If enough people do this, USPS will have to raise their rates though. Shipping materials are not expensive at all, it's hard to justlfy the behavior pointed out but nobody appointed me Ebay/Postage police so I have thousands of other things I can worry about, like Feedback, Sasquatch sightings, The illuminati, Real Houswives of Kandahar Season 3, and who's shooting who today.

Me too. Unless they want to put me on their payroll, i’ll MYOB. They have paid staff that should be policing the mail.

Put me solidly in this camp too and that goes for policing this site as well. I have way better things to do other than volunteer work for an entity with virtually unlimited resources and power. I am not a worker bee for giant corporations when I am NOT on their payroll. It makes my head hurt thinking about why someone is so into that type of thing.

No feedback will be given but I will never order from them again.

I could not see where the box had been reused.  No extra tape to close it or sticker upon stricker for reuse.

And the prime tape sticker looked fresh as well.

I'm not an Amazon Prime member.  Is there a rule about using or reusing Amazon packaging materials for non-Amazon shipments?  Please explain.  Thanks

As I already indicated box looked new.  Northing I saw indicated it was being reused.

Then I am still in the dark about why you would not do business with that seller again. If it was because they were abusing the terms of the packaging materials they chose, that would make sense. But if that's not the case - then why would you not give that seller your business again?  That is what I was really hoping you'd explain.
