I just got a package back today with a "Return to sender" sticker on it ... problem is the ship date on the label was Jan 12 this year ... we are just past the 6 month mark ... no INR was ever processed AND the address was a PO box.
Seller Hub has no record of it on the See all orders so I ran a report for that shipping time period and found the transaction ... problem is, I can not search the Buyer's name and Contact them through eBay. It has their city and state but no street address AND I can not be sure the address that the item was originally sent to is the same today. I did some searches online and I "think" I found the Buyer ... but this far down the road if I tried to make contact they might think I was some kind of a crack pot ... granted they wouldn't be that far off but that's beside the point LOL!
I have not opened the package yet but it seems pretty obvious nobody opened it, all the tape seals look like they have NOT been tampered with ...
So ... WHAT do I do now? The item was less than $ 20 ...

Wow, 6 months must be some sort of record for a domestic package - and it only went to Zone 2.
If you have the buyer's ID, you can go to their feedback page and use the "Contact" link there to send them a message.

Hate to say but could be the buyer died. My experience has been old guys have the train bug. In the middle of a pandemic... Put it aside and wait 6 months to see if anyone contacts you.

Excellent practice to be sure ...

It should be really easy to do a basic Google search on the word "obituary" plus the name on the package. If there are lots of hits, add the city they lived in as a search term.

@nobody*s_perfect Many, many steps ahead of you ... the Buyer did not come up in that search but someone else did with the same last name, same address did from almost 20 years ago ...

I have the Buyer's ID but Advanced Search will only work on Sellers, not straight Buyers which this person must be.

UPDATE: You guys are NOT going to believe this ... I just sold the 1946-47 Gray version of the same train car but NOT to the same Buyer. BUT, do you know what that means?
I have the perfect box already made and just printed the shipping label and the Post Office is 2.2 miles away so I can ship it out ASAP!!! Wow, and the bonus is, the convenience store is across the street where I can buy the Lottery Tickets as one of you suggested!!!! Am I having a GREAT DAY or WHAT????? (yeah, as long as a deer doesn't come blasting out of a cornfield and hit my car on the way to the Post Office,LOL!)

If you are in MP, you can go back to your old transaction (older than 90 days) by going into "Payments", then "custom", then you can input your "start" and "end" date of January 12th in there and your transaction will come up with your buyer's name, order number, phone, etc.

It's an OMEN!
As @katzrul15 suggested, you might want to grab a Lottery ticket on your way back from the Post Office 😁

Had this happen several times when I was selling. Sometimes people decease, go to jail, forget they ordered something, get deployed, move suddenly. Stuff happens. At this point, relist it.

according to ebay - do nothing.
I had simular experience not long ago, in good faith I refunded the buyer, even though ebay told me not to. What they said: "Wait for buyer to open a claim, then refund" - "if the time lapses past 30 days don't need to refund and we'll back you cause tracking shows USPS returned item to sender for insufficient address"
I just said, na, and refunded buyer, though never once heard from them, in doing so, they placed a mark on my performance which I then had to mail them about for 4 days to have them remove it...which they finally did.
