cheerleaders will tell you its the economy, Ukraine, the weather, politics, inflation, etc, etc. But the simple fact is that people all over the world are still buying things by the billions of dollars! each day.....just less and less are choosing to do so on ebay. All the other other platforms are growing while ebay is shrinking.
This is 100% an internal problem. Site disruptions, constant design changes and glitches and most of all - THE LOUSEY SEARCH!. Ebay has cluttered the platform with advertisements & promoted listings and on top of that rarely ever shows an actual relevant search result.
Just redesign the search algorithms to show people exactly what they type in the search box and SALES WILL SKYROCKET. The friction and buyer frustration caused by constantly showing the wrong items makes people leave the site and that is then logged into their minds. It all started years ago with the ebay catalog and trying to define search parameters from item specifics instead of item titles. Now the items specifics are filled out incorrectly or not at all, or worse yet completely keyword spammed- making the search non functional.
It is a very sad state of affairs when buyers literally must use the google search engine to find active ebay listings because ebay search shows nothing or unrelated promoted listings. It is a wicked spiral that with each new change gets worse and worse.
If ebay would get someone in there that understands search better and actually improves relevancy-we would all sell more and in turn list more and in turn people would start coming to ebay again. We need to turn it around.... but ebay must take the first step- fix the search!
