Should I cancel all my listings??

I got a call on Sunday that my mom had fallen and was being taken to the hospital.  I quick packed all the stuff I had to mail out and tossed them in the car and headed for MN..  I mailed them in Rochester.  My mom just turned 94 on Tuesday and is being taken to the nursing home tomorrow.  I came back to WI. today and my oldest daughter is getting her settled in the nursing home tomorrow.

My little brother is coming up from TX. & will be in Rochester on Sunday so I'm heading back to MN. on Saturday most likely. The rent on my moms apt. is paid through the end of August but my bro & I have to get everything in her apt. cleaned out and sold as she won't be going back home again.

He's heading back to TX. Thursday but I'm going to be back & forth for the next month finishing up getting rid of all of her stuff from living in that apt. for 25 years~~BIG JOB.

I have a 3 day handlng time but I know I can't keep up with that because I'm going to have to be gone for longer periods of time.  I'm thinking I should just cancel all my listings for the time being and start back up in a month when everything is done.  Then I'll just be gone for 2-3 days at the longest every 2 weeks going to visit her.

Is it a smart idea to just cancel all my listings or should I extend my handling time?  I don't want to have a up to 10 day handling time~~that would kill my sales anyway.  I feel like I should just cancel them all and not have to worry about them for the next month.

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

kat - best of luck to you hon - I've been in the same situation with my brother when my dad was having open heart last year. I fully intend to have to go through the same thing you are should anything happen in the future. We can't change our families unfortunately - I'm sure your mom is very grateful for all you do and knows with you taking care of most eveything - she won't have to worry.  Stay strong!

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

The sad part is this could have all been prevented except that my sister screwed up.  I gave my mom a life alert and my sister (thinks she's the only one who can do anything) set it up for her.  In all her "wisdom" she plugged the main unit into a outlet that was run off a light switch.  So when my mom fell it didn't work because the light switch was turned off.  My mom is totally blind so she never needed to turn the lamp on that was connected to that light switch.  She ended up laying there on the floor until the next day when the meals on wheels people found her.  That took a real toll on her~~she can hardly walk now and she is just so frail compared to what she was a week ago.  At least she will be safe in the nursing home.  She & my oldest daughter are so close ~~my daughter did all her laundry & cleaning for her on her 2 days off work every week.  Now she can spend those 2 days every week going to visit gramma & help keep her in good spirits.

Cancelling is the best thing for you right now, I know I could not handle the stress, nor would I want anyone else to.

Wishing you, your mother and family all the best during this difficult time.

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

I got them all cancelled except for the 4 ending today.  If any of those sell I can handle it.  I did get one that the tracking didn't get downloaded on time~~it got shipped within my handling time but I was a day late recording the tracking.  I have another that sold late Sunday that is going to be a day late on shipping~~I'm getting that out today but should have been shipped yesterday at the latest.  If I left my auctions up it would have probably ended up getting me suspended.   One late download and one late shipping is quite enough~~no more.

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

Open the lowest level store subscription,  and then go into the settings and place your new store on vacation mode.

You won't lose any of your listings, people will still see them in the searches,  but they won't be able to purchase anything until you take the store out of the Vacation Setting.

It'll cost you about $25 for the month,  but it won't cost you any lost sales, or mess up your standing from not being able to ship stuff on time.

It will give you the option of have 5x the number of listings too, from 50 to 250 free.

That way you can take all the time you need and you don't have to worry about ebay until you come back.

And, you won't lose any of your work.

After you come back,  you can just cancel the store subscription if you don't want it.

I really wish my family was all together on this whole thing.  My sister who lives 2 miles from me won't even take time off work to go see my mom & hasn't even called her at the hospital.  She had the nerve to tell me last night she was going to take Sunday off work and drive to Rochester to take stuff from the apt. that she wants.  I'm afraid I lost it~~~I told her if she couldn't take time off to even go see my mom in the hospital she hadn't better show her face up there to rummage through everything to take what she wants.  It was really a stressful few days getting her set up to get into the nursing home she wanted to go to & I was in no mood last night to deal with her.  My mom told me that any money we get for her furniture, etc. we are suppose to keep & split between us (my brother & I since we're doing all the work).  My sister is actually upset with my mom because she thought my mom was going to give her $1,000.00 for her birthday 2 weeks ago and it didn't happen.   NOW is not the time to be p'd because she didn't get what she expected.  Excuse me for rambling but it really upsets me.

Well, only about 40 more auctions to end this morning and they will all be down.  I feel like a ton has been lifted already with not having to deal with ebay for the next month.

@kattinsanity, I'm very sorry to hear about your mom.  We'll be here for you when you get back.  You sound like a wonderful daughter.  I'm glad your daughter will be there to help your mom (and you) also. Take a deep breath -- your mom is very important but you are too so you mustn't forget to think about yourself.

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

Why cancel all your listings & have to re-do later? Just put them ON vacation and check the box where it states they will not be seen and then you can put them OFF vacation when your life has settled into a better routine. Or END your listings and they will remain in UNSOLDS for 60 days & you can RELIST anytime within that 60 days. If you cancel or delete, your listings are lost forever and you would have to do all your listings over again.

Perhaps that is what you meant by "cancel" but be careful how you do it or you could lose all your hard work you have already completed on your listings. Hope things straighten out for you soon!

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

That was going to be my suggestion too, but OP has already taken down most of her listings.

Katt if your sister showed up Sat I'd slam the door in her face. Honestly, family.

So sorry to hear of your mother's situation.

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

I just got off the phone with my mom & my daughter.  I guess my mom was up and showered & dressed by 8:00 AM  getting ready for the nursing home~~they're picking her up at 11:00.  It's funny~~the paramedics packed her bag to go to the hospital & I guess thay did a fantastic job.  My daughter says she looks REALLY nice in the clothes they picked out for her.  She was in such good spirits this morning laughing & talking.   She is just so happy to be going to the nursing home that she wanted to go to.  I'm so happy that she has the stress off her now knowing she's going where she wants to be for the rest of her life.  She spent 3 months there 7 years ago when she broke her leg & she just loved it there.  Things are looking up.

Why not read his ENTIRE post and not pick out a single word from it?

@takikawa4@ -- What?  Whose post?  I quoted @berserkerplanet's one word.  I read the other person's entire post and felt it wasn't nice so I didn't quote it in my reply.   But then, not everyone has to be nice.... it's just a preference.

IMO, @kattinsanity, has every right to be here posting whatever she chooses about her present (apparently very difficult) situation with her mom falling and everything else she has to deal with.   She asked a simple question about her eBay listings.  It didn't appear to me she should have gotten a lecture from a thrill seeker. <shrug>

Re: Should I cancel all my listings??

I figured canceling them was the safest way to not get any questions asked that I may not see for a week, etc..  There are many of them I may not even list again~~it's a good time to "clean house" and just start over from scratch when I get back into selling again.  It seems like I used to sell more when I only had less than 50 listings up than what I sell when I have 100+ listings up.  When I come back to selling I may just do it part time~~I don't know yet.

If you have the time to take and post this very well phrased post...it makes one wonder why you would even bother seeking advice about canceling your listings as a ROCKSTAR poster...

Seriously...

You managed to get off my annihilator list only by virtue of not posting for a while, but this earned you a permanent place on it.
