I have a brand new Canon Pixma Pro-100 in the original box. It's just over 40 lbs and I tried selling it locally at a good price ($225) but no bites since I'm in a small city.
Well, I'm moving in 2 weeks so I think I'm going to sell it on eBay. However, I'm worried someone might file a return. I'm kind of out of options.
Another question: since I've never shipped such a big item before, what shipping service should I go with, and should I charge the buyer shipping?
Thanks!

2 weeks is not NEARLY enough time to satisfactorly complete the sale.
Take it with you and try from your new place.

This is why fedex and UPS were made. You will get a much better rate than USPS. Just look up the printer and use the Sold feature to see what other sellers did. Also, go on their sites, pick a random zip code in a city on the other side of the country, and get a shipping quote as just a rough idea of what it could cost so that you aren't surprised when it is time to ship.

IMHO that is a tight timeframe for eBay. even if you list it for 7 days with immediate payment required, what will you do if it doesn't sell? Now you are down to a week.
should I charge the buyer shipping?
That's a bit like asking whether you should buy a Smart Car or a dump trunk. It all depends upon your needs, preferences, and values. But if you offer free shipping, remember that the shipping cost for a large item can vary by distance so it will cost more to ship it from New York to Hawaii than from New York to New Jersey.

I looked on Amazon and I can buy a new Canon Pixma PRO-100 with a set of Canon ink and 50 pages of photo paper for a fixed price of $223 plus $30 shipping. So your idea of a good price may not be as good as you think.
If you offer free shipping on Ebay and price it at $225, you will probably pay $25 for shipping. Add in eBay's fees ($22.50) and PayPal's fees ($7) and you are looking at clearing just $170. And don't forget to factor in the chances that the buyer returns it (that means a $50 loss and convincing the buyer to ship to a new address that is different from the address it came from) or that the buyer returns a phone book (that means you lose the printer and $25 in shipping) .
Considering the risk, the tight timeframe, and that the retun is just $170, it might be a better path to just offer it again locally for something more realistic like $150.

You tried selling locally... for 3 days? Something this large would take longer than that to sell. And as above poster mentioned, your price is a factor, too.

If it's too large to take with you on your move, either list it lower (locally) and cut your losses, or donate it to a school or other organization that could really use it.
Good luck with the move.

Hear, hear... and I don't know why we've had this sudden run on topics involving Canon printers recently (though I know in this case it's because the OP is moving), but searching the discussions here will bring them up pretty quickly.
The gist of what we've heard so far is that it's a fairly big, heavy printer; it may not ship well (in terms of surviving the voyage); and it costs a lot to ship anyway, not to mention that you could end up having to pay to ship it back again later. It's just generally a very risky undertaking.

$225 isn't actually a "good price". It's reasonable but not anything special. If you want to move it fast you'll need to go lower no matter where you sell it.
It took me all of 10 seconds to find a cheaper one here on eBay and if a buyer wants to wait for a bargain there have been a few (new) sold here recently for $50 less (including shipping).

All you have to do is look here on eBay for what they are going for new, with free shipping. In other words, $225 plus shipping for used, probably isn't going to get you any takers.
