I feel like we as Ebay sellers do alot more after the sale than simply hand a bag of takeout food to a customer after spinning around an IPad Screen and letting them know, "It's just gonna ask you a couple questions".
Disappointed that Ebay has not added a tip option during checkout. The food delivery services all let customers tip before purchasing.

I'm not sure that I worded anything incorrectly.

My tip which I desire is just a positive feedback.

No. No. NO. I would NEVER ever tip a seller here for doing their job like taking great photos, packing correctly and shipping fast. If the seller needs more $$$, then go edit and raise their prices. I do NOT expect to be tipped either. You like my service? Great, become a repeat customer.

The food delivery person would likely be losing money if not for the tips. The amount the platform gives them rarely covers even their gas.
Maybe eBay sellers do more (I'm skeptical) but eBay sellers get to set their selling prices to whatever level provides them with the profit margin they desire.

What "we as eBay sellers do after the sale" is why we get paid the price our items are selling for in the first place. I can't imagine a buyer who would think, "Why yes, I'd like to pay a little more for this item because the seller has more work to do after he gets my money."

I was doing it during Covid, for good reason, hours had been cut for these employees.
Now I think the companies are exploiting the tipping and keeping some if not all of the tips, or using tipping to cut their labor costs.
Why enrich the richest people and corporations in the history of mankind?, who also pay a lower tax rate than I do.
I was also in the habit of tipping 25 to 30% for the same reason and I've cut back to 15 to 20% depending on the level of service.

How about a tip jar for the wonderful people at eBay to show our listings more? Whoops, they already have a few different ones called PROMOTED LISTINGS. Funny how it starts working pretty good at that 12%-15% range.

Absolutely agree. The way I hear most delivery drivers talk, many don't seem to understand the amount of wear done to their cars, especially at slower city driving speeds and on/off of the engine. I usually hear something like I made $65 over 4 hours and they estimate what they spent in gas, maybe $8, so they call it $57. For example. I've added up all the stuff you can spend on a car over say 250k or so miles and that .65 per mile/close to it figure the IRS uses is pretty accurate

Yeah, most of my promoted listings seem to sell well haha, but that fee..... I could probably also just reduce the price of the item and catch the buyers who sort by lowest price and maybe lose 3% in price vs selling at a higher rate and paying 10% in ad fees plus the 11.5 or so final value fee.

....and how much of cut would ebay get from your tips? 15% ?
Oh...so mandatory tips like some restaurants charge for large parties (ebay purchases)?
Nah. Poor idea. Less than poor, actually.

Absolutely not, tipping in the USA is getting out of hand. I’m sick of a an iPad POS terminal being shoved in front of my face with 18, 20 and 30% tipping option when I pick up food from chipotle or get ice cream. Your tip or lack there of can be weaponized against you when you order food through an app or online. It’s completely ridiculous.

Mr. F. M. Jones would highly agree if he were still with us.

I feel I give enough tips to people for providing services to me, when I'm also paying for the service.
I don't need to be giving tips to eBay sellers for shipping me a coin or a stamp.

Dodge Chargers are known to run hot. Better to use a Yugo, or similar failure.

@caseypl wrote:Yeah, kind of the point of the post... only a matter of time before we see the practice start hitting the online sites. I am pretty sick of seeing the tip stuff everywhere.
It hasn't gone as nuts in Canada as it has in the US... but my nightly news show (CBC's National) has talked about restaurants pandering for a 30% tip on the meal, in addition to having raised the prices by 50%.
I am not a big tipper, but I think what I am tipping is quite a bit, it's just not as big as they're trying to get me to tip... for instance I often do 18-20%, and they're trying to get 25-30%. I do tip food delivery (like UBER Eats) reasonably well because I'm in the know about what they earn, and it's not that much considering they are paying to maintain their own vehicle, most of which are not very new vehicles and need a lot of maintenance.
In Canada (specifically where I live) restaurant workers make $15 an hour plus tips, which is more than lots of corporations are paying. Here people change companies to increase their salary because there's no loyalty to long time employees. I've been with the company 15 years and I get 2% raises, if I'm lucky.
