Dumb question. A buyer just used the shopping cart to buy multiple items. We have an impending blizzard, so I had changed some of my handling times, but not all yet - was planning to finish them in the AM. So 1 of the items has a 5 day handling, while the other 2 have 2 day handling.
Since they used the Shopping Cart, they are 1 purchase with 1 package. Anyone know which handling time I have to abide by? It's odd that they list all 3, since it's 1 purchase. TIA.

Actually that's a great question. Pretty sure you have to abide by both. Shipping within 2 days satisfies all handling times.
If you can't ship the 5day that quickly, then ship the two 2days to satisfy those first. Then later on ship the 5day and add the tracking for that one specifically for that item. In the order details you can specify different tracking numbers for each item. Ta-da.

I would ship it this morning/today and be done with it. If you have weather conditions that prevent you shipping it this morning/today then eBay will remove the defect should you get one.

Thank you, I did manage to get it out before the storm hit. But does anyone know the actual answer to my question? Which handling time would I have to had abide by & why are there different handling times per item when they're all going to go in 1 package?
I don't usually have different handling times, so maybe it's always been like this & I've just never noticed it before?

I think you would have to ship package within the shorter handling time to avoid a potential defect on that particular item.

If there are 2 different items with 2 different handling times and you are shipping them TOGETHER, you would have to go by the earliest handing time in order to fulfill your ebay requirements.

Logic says the shorter handling time. With one single order you can upload multiple tracking numbers, but you can't 'assign' a tracking number to a specific item - all tracking numbers will be tied to all items. So systematically I believe the shorter time is what your seller performance ratings will look at.
But for an "official" eBay answer all I can tell you is that I asked about this a long time ago and Velvet from eBay said she'd check, but she never came back with an answer so I guess the team she contacted at eBay didn't even know.

I agree.

You're right, I forgot about that. Thanks!

Oh interesting. It DOES look like you can have multiple Tracking numbers, even though they were purchased through the Shopping Cart. I never realized that. Practically speaking, that would not have made sense for me, since I have FS when you buy 3, so if I'd done that, I would have had to pay outbound shipping twice, instead of just once, but it seems like it's doable.

Yeah, you missed my post above - or you were working on the screenshot while I posted. 🙂
I actually have used that before but it's been at least a year and a half (if I have my dates right) so I forgot about it. Grateful for the refresher because there are times where I could use it.

Yes pretty much un-combined shipping would be less practical. Unless there's a reason why you cannot physically push the 5 day one up to 2 days.

I did check out that old thread & yeah, Velvet never came back with an answer. But also, she said she thought the "vast majority" of sellers use the same handling time on everything. Granted, I don't work for eBay, so I'm not privy to that info, but I think that's an unfair assumption. I have different handling times for all items that require a lot of special packing. Like you had said in that thread, you had different handling times for items that are off-site. I think it'd be pretty common to have different handling times. In this case it was b/c I was prepping for a blizzard, but I think there's lots of legit reasons to have varying handling times. I guess I've just never run into this before. TBH, I have very few customers who use the Shopping Cart at all.
Thank you everyone for your input. Sounds like the answer is you have to abide by both. But, practically speaking, that generally will mean that you abide by your shortest time b/c most sellers aren't going to want to incur additional shipping costs.

An impending blizzard in Colorado? I find that hard to believe.
