I have a vintage pair of Converse that are the original(made in USA) and they come with the original box as well and will sell for over $200. They are obviously real to anyone who examines them. Being that these are not a pair of popular(let's say Nike- type) sneakers that are often faked, will I still be required to go through the authentication process? Are nearly all shoes that sell for over $150 now required to go through the process or can you still choose to sell without the process?

I didn’t see it on mine until after the item was listed. Ebay also charged my buyer additional shipping fees) once they purchased the item which I think is odd.

eBay probably charged additional shipping because when you listed it they accidentally let you enter your own shipping price . If it was below $15 eBay will correct it when the shoe is sold and charge them the $15 because of their new Deal/ Policy with fedex for sneakers.
Ebay now has a shipping program with FedEx for sneakers. Every pair sold though the authentication program has to use their flat rate fedex shipping.
With this in place you cannot list your item with free shipping or ship with a different carrier anymore.
Every listing automatically has a shipping price of 14.99 and goes though fedex.
I’m not a fan of this. I used to sell a lot of shoes and because I am close to their authentication facility, I could ship a pair of shoes for $8 or $9 sometimes even less though UPS, fedex or even USPS.
I preferred doing it myself because I would normally have other sales and stick with USPS and UPS because they are close to me, and next to each other for dropping off packages.
Now I have to drive across town to Fedex every time I sell a shoe.
Most high end shoes, like off-white, Travis scott, Union, Dior, and designer shoes that I sold, I used to give free shipping with.
Now we have no choice.
I know personally I have been buying way less, because a lot of the sellers I used to buy from did free shipping also. So for a shoe you are already paying way over retail for, you now have to pay an additional $15. If I am buying multiple pairs at the same time, it adds up.
