Shipping

I won’t ship internationally and that’s the end of the story. I don’t care what eBay says. It won’t happen

Re: Shipping

Is this about not wanting to deal with freight forwarders?

Re: Shipping

Glad I now know your stand on that issue. I won't be losing any sleep tonight pondering this issue regarding your shipping decisions. Thank you.

I don't ship internationally either. Just in case anyone was wondering...

But, last week a big box of shipping supplies arrived at my door compliments of eBay. I never ordered them, I guess they were sent randomly to sellers to encourage their new shipping program. It won't change my mind about shipping international but I sure love those supplies! I feel like I won the lottery.

Re: Shipping

I don't get why some people fear selling/shipping international. But, then again, I don't need to get it.

My first international sale was within months of starting on eBay in '97. Since then, I've shipped hundreds of items some years, and only dozens in other years. For some reason I don't seem to run into any problems. I have only 3 or 4 issues ever, which when averaged out they were less than issues with domestic sales. My only issue in the last 3 years was my own fault - I forgot to replace the battery cover in a trail camera after taking the batteries out for shipment. That cost me about $30 to ship it to the Netherlands myself on my dime. Fortunately I discovered it the day after shipping and it arrived before the camera.

But anyway, I just don't see why people fear shipping international.

A lot of it depends on what you are selling as to how big of a target it is for international scammers. While I have opted out of selling internationally until they get the issues sorted out with the EIS program even when I was selling internationally there were a number of countries that I would not sell/ship to due to risk and for other reasons, regardless of whether they tried to go through a FF or not. EBay has not always stood by it's policy regarding the buyers loss of MBG coverage when a FF was used.

The other issue is return shipping costs. Yes domestic buyers can request a return, refund or file a NAD claim/case but  in cases where the buyer is international if the seller wants the item back the return shipping cost can be excessive if the seller has to pay for it in cases where the seller shipped directly to the buyer. The international market place is HUGE and has grown to over 50% of eBay's revenues according to their last financial reporting but it also comes with some additional risks which eBay is trying to mitigate with the EIS program.
