It is now costing upwards of $12 to send a small 1lb box via priority mail to California.
Usually too large for a small flat-rate box and a medium is $1.75 more.
I offer flat-rate shipping and hate it when I get CA/FL buyers, which seem to compose of ~50% of my listings, but of course about 25% of the entire country lives in these two states.
This cost is making it hard to compete with drop shippers using prime because they pay nothing for shipping whereas I do.
There is about 3800 cubic feet of cargo space in a 53' trailer which means 3800 12x12x12 boxes could fit in.
That means on a truckload going to CA, the postage paid on said truckload would be over $45,000..per..truckload.
Honestly I blame Amazon for putting something the size of a coaster in a 24x24x8" box which ties up all the usable space and thus less orders per shipment which increases cost.

I mostly do flat rate and understand your situation.
Since I do flat rate, I pick the carrier,. I am east coast and often use FedEx ground of UPS for west coast items. Only takes a day or 2 longer, Never had a complaint.

Thank you, I found it. But I don't see where it would allow me to add extra freight for shipping to specified areas, just where I can exclude certain areas.
