Hi,
Do I need to buy insurance if my item was sold around $1,000?
Thanks for your time.

You don't HAVE to, but maybe u should. Shipsaver charges $1 per $100 insured value.

OP, do make sure you get online signature confirmation.

I would. If it gets lost or damaged in transit, you'll be out $1,000. With USPS, it will cost $11. I'll spend $11 to cover a potential $1k loss.
Also, you need to send with Signature Confirmation - regular tracking won't hold up. If the buyer opens an Item Not Received and you go with regular tracking and it even shows "delivered," the buyer will win unless you have SigCon too.

And if you are shipping over the counter, don't let the clerk tell you that the USPS insurance will need a signature. You absolutely need the separate signature confirmation.

I'm not seeing any recent sale of yours that's remotely close to that price. Was it under another account? What was the item? (Not trying to be nosy here, but some items might justify insurance more than others, and some items shouldn't be shipped at all.)

The OP may just be acting proactive and asking before he lists the item.

Which is wise. Better than having to come to the Board after the fact, when you have an issue., but you cannot do anything about it.

I was doing some research and found this older post. Recently we ran into this same question. Not as a seller but when shopping. I did some research and typically I would NOT chime in, but with people listing costs that were higher than what we found, I would like to offer a pearl and have been using for a while now.
We buy on Amazon, etsy and other sites (limited on ebay) and can always insure what is needed without a hassle. There were a few that stated "no" on purchasing insurance. I feel that if I buy something that is $500 and it only costs me $4.00 for shipping insurance, it is a small price to pay for security. I have used it twice (filed claims) and it was easy and I got paid in less than 2 weeks. Both were for lost items by the PO and I did not have signature required.
I know there are others who feel it is a waste of money but I would rather know I am not waiting for a store to refund my money or file a claim. It is MY hands and I don't have to wonder if I will get reimbursed.
I will not ship without insuring. Maybe this will help others with their decision? Happy shopping!
