I have a question regarding shipping fees. So far, I have not received an adequate answer from Ebay. When post my auction on Ebay, I tell the buyer they need to pay xxx for shipping. When Ebay calculates my fees, the fee is calculated on the total of the buying price + shipping+ tax. The number they list for shipping is higher than what I posted in the auction. They when I print the shipping label you get a completely different number there. How does Ebay come up with a shipping cost for the fee calculation?

The fee is based on the shipping price the buyer actually paid. When you print labels thru eBay you get a small discount from the retail price so it's usually a little less than the buyer paid.

I noticed all of your auction list first USPS First class shipping at a high stated price, for example on your list customer pays $9.95 first class. The buyer would then pay $9.95 and if the item is under a pound, you should be paying a lot less for the label. However, if the item is over a pound, you cannot use a USPS first class label and it would be bumped to Priority shipping which is substantially higher than first class. Also are you listing as USPS first class but picking another carrier such as UPS or FedEx when buying the label? If so, that would also account for being charged more than the customer pays as well.

I think the problem could be when you look at "shipping costs" you see costs for Indiana. But if customer is in NYC or California they would pay more money for shipping because of the distance.
