Shipping an item to the verified address when they messaged saying a different one.

Hello,

We recently shipped an item to the customers verified address (paypal address), even though they said that the address was wrong and gave us a different one in a different state. We have listened to buyers a few times without getting burned. My question is, will you win the item not received case if you sent the item to the address they have on record, even if they requested a different one? (Also, would a bad feedback get removed?)

Honestly with the way things are now you will get burned regardless. Policy requires you to ship to the address supplied in the purchase. If they aren't at that address then they won't get it. Previously you would have to cancel the order and redo it for the correct address. The problem is now you lose out on your PayPal fees... As far as I know this is a no win situation now.

Was the same address verified in eBay and PayPal? Sending to the verified address is the correct thing to do. I too have sent items to requested addresses without any problems. In today’s environment, with computer programming (bots) making the decisions on cases filed, I will not be doing it anymore.

The people programming the new item specifics are probably the ones programming the case decision programming.

Before PayPal decided to not refund steal  our fees, I would always cancel the order so they could correct their address and re order. Now if they screw up, too bad. Sucks for them but it's not my problem if your item went to the wrong address.

Because of PayPal and because of eBay refusing to give us any options to recover those fees when a buyer makes a mistake, I have a customer who is going to take a $70 loss and not get their item simply because It's not going to be me losing money for something that is not my fault. I really hope my buyer appreciates eBay after a loss like that and i hope they understand who to point the finger at when it would have been a simple matter to take care of otherwise.

Call me a bad person or whatever, but ever since that new policy of stealing our fees took effect, I will not lift a finger to help a buyer who got their address wrong, the item will just have to ship to whatever address is on file until PayPal does away with this policy or until eBay gives us a way to get back what we lose on cancellations. It's no longer my problem.

There is no such thing as seller protection anymore. As such I fail to see how you feel a buyer is going to take a loss.

Ebay indiscrimately refunds everything now, and its whole setup, is causing double digit growth at Amazon, and Aliexpress.

For a while there EBAY said that if you had record of the request in eBay messages from the buyer to change the shipping address, EBAY would back you up for an INR claim.  Too bad to be you if the "new" address costs more for shipping than they paid.

However, PayPal would not help a seller in this instance  should the buyer file there instead. A seller must ship to the address supplied with the payment.

New twist in the story of late is that a seller may get a request to change the address in their eBay messages. Unfortunately for the seller, it is often not even from the buyer of record, but rather a crook trying to get the seller to ship to them instead.

The messages are often prefaced with a sudden illness of a family member that requires a trip out of state to care for that close relative....so please, ship to........ (often an address of a known reshipper).

I don't know what ebay does should a seller fall for this scam.  The REAL buyer doesn't get the merchandise, and the seller will be refunding if a claim is filed in PayPal.

How expensive was this item?  If it was under $30 and the buyer had some time/history on eBay I would have accommodated the buyer's request to ship to a different address.

Report the buyer. Let eBay know in the report you shipped to the address on file but the buyer wanted it to be shipped elsewhere after the fact.
It could be a scam set up. If they wanted it shipped to another address, after the sale is the worst time to ask the seller to ship elsewhere.

Cancel the sale -or- ship it to the verified address.

If you cancel the sale, i believe one of the reasons is "problem with the buyers address" or something like that.

Re: Shipping an item to the verified address when they messaged saying a different one.

I do not play those address games

the item gets shipped to wherever ebay shipping  prints it for

I get plenty of people moving, going  on vacation and you name it

I do not know about you but If I am moving soon I would not be ordering anything online

the same goes for shipping  it to a vacation address at your relatives, what could possibly go wrong

I do realize that people move an average of every 7 years but is keeping  your address up to date with paypal and ebay such a hard thing to do.

my son moved out 6 months ago.I tell him to change his address, not done yet

ow well, learn to live with the consequences of failure to keep on top of stuff like an address change

ebay supporter read messages between buyers and seller as well so You will win and feedback removed. If a buyer ask me to send a different address other their verified address, I will do it

Re: Shipping an item to the verified address when they messaged saying a different one.

Firstly if your going to ship the item untracked, feel free to ship it anywhere. If the buyer is dishonest (as 99.9 percent of packages make it to the destination), you will lose your item, not matter where you ship it.

For tracked insured packages, the buyer has the ability to update the proper ship to address. Just cancel the transaction, and have them correct it. Do not worry about the feedback. You can respond to it, and almost anyone will understand that you refused to ship to an address that was noton file with ebay , and paypal.

The real answer is forget about protection, as ebay gives sellers none of that now. Trust me. They could tell ebay a story about winnie the poo and the case would be awarded to the buyer , if one is filed. It should be common sense without even thinking about ebay and paypal rules, that you will ship to the address currently on file only.

For feedback removal, the same is true, you cannot rely on ebay to remove ANY feedback. All you can do is try. The only feedback I see them remove is things like vulgar language. NEg to tthe buyer , in the only positive form you may give it, etc. Very seldom can you rely on ebay for anything at all. They just want the system to run itself, and they do not want to do anything. (in my humble opinion)

It's not clear to me from your wording whether you got that change request from the buyer before or after you shipped the item. (The following is based on that message being from your actual buyer, and not simply a scammer writing to you from a different eBay ID.)

If you received it before shipping, I would cancel the transaction due to Problem with Buyer Address, and tell them to fix it and re-purchase. Re-list as a BuyItNow with Immediate Payment Required and tell them to come and get it. (If someone else grabs it first, Tough Patooties for them.)

If you received the request after shipping, Tough Patooties for them (again), but explain that they still have time to file a forwarding order on-line at usps.com, so hopefully the package will be forwarded to them. It's not your problem if it isn't, as long as tracking indicates that the package was delivered to the City and ZIP of the address received with the PayPal payment. If the package comes back to you as Undeliverable at that address, they will need to pay you again to ship to the new address.

Nope. Before or after does not matter now. Whatever address is on file is where it goes. Canceling and letting a buyer purchase again is off the table after PayPal decided they did not want to have us as customers any longer with their theft of our selling fees.
