Hi, everyone. I often sell items with shipping weights of 4-5 pounds. I like to use actual calculated shipping charges, to be fair to everyone, and offer several options including flat rate boxes when possible.
In the past a potential bidder would simply hit “calculate” and the page would scroll down to where they entered a zip code. And then it would STAY THERE, so all shipping options for that zip code could be compared.
NOW the page scrolls back up to the top, where the potential bidder only sees whatever shipping option I’ve listed first. To compare shipping options, they must click “calculate” again. I doubt many will do this and therefore not see the lowest option.
A 4-pound package costs $7.31 to ship USPS Ground to 12345 (near me) and $18.14 to 90210 (CA). I also have a medium FRB option for $13.60. The 90210 bidder would never see the FRB option and assume shipping was $18.14, unless they re-hit the “calculate” icon. If I list the FRB option first, a bidder near me would assume their shipping costs were $13.60 instead of $7.31, unless they hit the button again.
It’s a lose-lose situation and may affect a sale, especially if the bidder is comparing shipping costs with other similar items. Is there some way we can convince ebay to rethink its decision to scroll up to the top after a potential bidder has entered a zip code?
Sorry this is so lengthy….

It's just ANOTHER eBay glitch that started about a month ago; I don't think they intentionally programmed it to work that way. It only happens when you change the zip code on that screen which probably isn't often. You're seeing it because you're probably changing the zips to check out the prices it's showing to different areas. Good luck getting eBay to fix it, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I think the buyers are seeing all the shipping options properly because they're not playing around with the zip codes and just let it use the default one that comes up with their id.

The shipping section automatically shows both options, defaulted to the ZIP Code of any member who looks at the listing. That jumpy glitch only happens when the potential buyer changes the ZIP Code, which is probably only a small percentage of purchases. And in order to change the ZIP Code, the buyer had to already be in the shipping section where they can see that there are two options.
