Is there an option to have a sliding scale of insurance (based on final value or combined total of all items) included in the shipping calculator?  I'm selling Disney Dollars and final values may go over $50, especially if a buyer wins more than one listing.  Or should I just put the insurance scale in the listing?

NO, you can't put the insurance scale in the listing. Insurance is for the seller.  BUYERS have no need for insurance. Their insurance is eBay Buyer Protection.

HOWEVER. you are are allowed to insure to protect yourself but you can't charge insurance as a separate fee. The cost of insurance has to be built into the listing when you list. You can add it to the item cost or to the handling cost. You'll just have to take a guess what it will sell for.

insurance tip:

Insurance is basically for lost  items. Damaged items take the buyer's co-operation for you to get reimbursed. What happens is when they claim it's broken they're required to return  thei tem to you which voids the insurance.

@fumefreak, not it's not possible to do that.

You're not allowed to charge a buyer extra for insurance ... the policy used to explicitly state that, but even though it doesn't say so in so many words, it's still not allowed. Insurance protects the seller, so you're not allowed to directly charge the buyer for insurance. Buyers don't need insurance, they are covered by the eBay Money Back guarantee if the package is lost or damaged during shipping.

The only way to charge something extra is if you use calculated shipping - then you can add a handling charge, which will be added automatically to the calculated cost of shipping to the buyer's shipping address. But, the handling fee has to be a flat rate, the same for all buyers, and it can't vary or change based on the auction ending price.

Thank you both for your replies.  I shipped my last batch of Disney Dollars via Priority Mail flat rate envelope.  I'm going to be listing a new group of Disney Dollars, so how should I insure/ship them going forward to protect myself if the final value goes above $1000?  I have a few that are rare.
