Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

Charged $1156 dollars for a shipping which should have been $40 dollars. Not the first time happened for me during the last one year. Anybody else had the same problem? Any recommendations on how to resolve?

Label was printed out of ebay for UPS shipping. Shipping cost dispute filed through ebay to UPS was denied. I was told by ebay there was nothing else they can do; I will be stuck with $1116 dollars outrage wrong charge!

I am calling around the news agencies for consumer advocacy. I am going to ship large box through my own accounts with fedex and ups moving forward; there is no saving to print shipping lables through ebay with wrong charges I have been hit.

I don't know how that could happen. Why did you accept the charge and print?

If you haven't shipped it's pretty easy to cancel a label (USPS is, anyway). It might take a little time to credit your account.

I think there's more here.

What were the dimensions and weight of the box?

@bwbr8003

Good grief, I sent a vehicle from Nevada to Michigan cheaper than that!!

Have the same issue with UPS,

entered the corrected dimensions and weight,

was quoted 27.94 for UPS label- a week later Ebay charges me twice that amount on behalf of UPS.

This is a very common practice with UPS, happens on more than 30% of my sales shipped through UPS using ebay.

best bet is to use your own UPS account or even better yet stick with FEDEX or USPS.

Re: Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

HI,

When I printed the label, the cost is 40 dollars. Then one month down the road, when I saw ebay invoice, I was charged for 1156 dollars for shipping. UPS adjusted the charge based on their wrong measurement.

The true measurement is 42''x37''x2''.  I sold multiple same items and shipping is around 40 dollars to destination in US. For the incidence above, UPS somehow measured it at 67'' x42'' x12''; I was charged based on UPS incorrect measurement.

I was hit twice last year with Fedex, same issue. Then this year one time with UPS. Crazy surprise incorrect charge, for sure!

Hi, sorry you were hit with the same issue before. I thought I would not be the only one getting hit. I only has about 20 transaction a month. I got hit three times in the last one year!

Re: Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

The difference in price seems out of line.  I have a very good scale and measure the dimension of each package. My packages are generally less than 10 pounds. For USPS I key in the measured numbers. For Fedex and UPS I bump up the numbers so, a 24Oz package becomes a 26 Oz package, a 13 1/4 inch package becomes a 15 inch package.  I ship mostly with USPS and have never experienced any issues. I limit the use of Fedex and cringe when I do use them as I've experienced numerous times a higher charge than calculated at ship time. However, the additional cost is typically 10% or so.  My limited use with UPS has been positive. I've never been charged more by UPS but have received a lower final charge.  I have to wonder why Fedex tends to charge me more even though I bump up my numbers. However, it seems that UPS notices my higher numbers and reduces the charge.

Re: Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

Is it just a dimensions issue or is it also tied to insurance value?  We had one over the holidays where we entered it as $100 for insurance and they charged us based on $1k for insurance.  Took a LOT of back and forth with Fedex to get it resolved.  Finally did, but they about wore us out.  (never mind that the parcel arrived late and they certainly did not credit us for that)

Re: Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

You are not the first person this has happened to. Because the FedEx and UPS pricing through eBay shipping are only estimates a number of people have gotten burned by this. If you are going to use FedEx or UPS to ship take it to a FedEx or UPS shipping facility and pay for the shipping then and there. You can always put the tracking information into eBay once you have it.

With the eBay UPS and FedEx shipping there have been instances where FedEx and UPS have, of their own accord, re-packaged items because they felt the original shipper packing was not up to their standards. I avoid both FedEx and UPS like the plague.

Re: Shipping Cost Dispute with Fedex/UPS through Ebay

Has happened three times to me since February.

Where UPS' 'quoted price' nearly doubles once the monthly invoice is generated.

Be sure to check the Supplemental Service Fee portion of your invoice all!

THE MOST bizarre occurrence was when UPS charged me TWO different weights (and prices) for the SAME TWO ITEMS...ebay still ignored it and said they would have to dispute it.

When asked if I could send them my receipt for when I dropped it off at the UPS Store, ebay said NO!

Completely unethical and shady with absolutely ZERO transparency on how their 'Dispute Process' with UPS works.

I am ready to file chargebacks with my financial institutions as ebay's 'Leadership Team' offered ZERO courtesy or compromise for erroneous and blatantly false charges.

In my book I consider that straight up STEALING!

They quote you one price and once the invoice comes it somehow doubles in price leaving you with zero to little recourse.

You don't see the 'higher price' until the invoice is generated.

Very shady.

If you take a package to  place that accepts and sells UPS Shipping and pay for the shipping, can they still bill you later?

There is stuff I have put off selling when USPS went to the Dimensional Weight,  because of the size of box needed.
