Shipped an item to the wrong buyer

Hi,

An old shipping label was in my printer que when I printed out a shipping label. Believe it or not, two items were shipped on the same label. This woman in Minnesota received her correct item from me  and then 3 days later received an item intended for another buyer. I was able to go to my main post office and confirm the time and dates this woman received both packages. I  spoke to Ebay every day about my issue. I contacted the incorrect buyer who admitted she received the incorrect item from me. She asked me to send her a return label so that she could return my item back to me. eBay has all of our conversations on record. I asked EBay for  a 10 day extension on my missing item case so that I could send a label to the Minnesota lady to return the item back to me so that I can then send it out to the correct buyer. Well EBay closed the case on me and charged me $185 for the item that did not make it to the correct buyer. Now,  the woman in Minnesota who received my item incorrectly has received the return label, has had it for a week and has not returned my item to me. I have sent her messages through the eBay portal everyday and she does not answer me. What do you think I can do?  Need advice. eBay was absolutely no use to me even though I spoke to them every day and they promised me they had my back. The correct buyer wrote me a lovely review for how I tried to get the item back for them.

Oh dear. That sounds like something I would do. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much that you can do. You shipped the wrong item to the wrong person and they are under no obligation to return anything to you, even if you provided a label to them. Ebay stepped in, I'm assuming the other person opened an INR case against you and ebay refunded them the money using your funds. I may be wrong, but I think that ship has sailed. So sorry.

There's really nothing you can do aside from continuing to work with the first buyer on a return.

If she eventually returns it, you can relist it and let the other buyer know. If she doesn't return it there's nothing you can do through eBay.

Unfortunately you did a whole lot of things wrong.

eBay would not have stepped in and resolved if you did things correctly.

You need to spend some time understanding how eBay works or you will lose money.

If it's an INR case, all you had to do was update the case with the successfully delivered tracking (doesn't matter what was delivered).

If it a return you upload a return label to the case. Ebay will hold off stepping in until the item is returned back to you and then you have 2 days to inspect and refund.

If you don't do either of those things eBay will most likely decide the case against you, add a defect to your account, refund the buyer, deducting the total from you without giving you back the original fees.

I won a $10 item here years ago and the seller mistakenly sent me a mint in box Star Wars XWing from the 70's when it first came out. Needless to say I was surprised, the seller didn't even contact me to say they made a mistake. I ended up contacting them to let them know what they did and they were horrified and apologetic. I mailed it back to them and they sent my correct item and issued me a refund. I always felt being honest with sellers is the best way to operate.
