So again the servers are down! Do we get credit for all these "down" times

No!

Thanks - was just a little "pun" about it never showing down.  Should have attached an emoji....sans caffeine here!!

Most of the time I use down detector & the like, even for other sites, it never acknowledges they're down..

I think down detector is down. LOL

Bigger sites will usually mirror or replicate the servers in various areas. So while the server might be headquartered in Arizona or somewhere, other servers will be set up in various parts of the US if not the world.

Is to help be a better experience for you so you will not have loading issues. Now if the server in one part of the country is down, you may or may not notice much because you'll be redirected to a different server somewhere else. But it's not always a guarantee. If it does work as intended, it just might be slower. But functional at least. Is also why you might see a listing where you're at, but someone in another part of the US does not. The data or indexing just hasn't been replicated yet to the server for the other person (no idea if this actually happens, but wouldn't be surprised if it does).

So it's possible the Is It Down site or whatever is checking a server that is OK whereas the one you are using is having issues.

If you ever get bored, read up on Content Delivery/Distribution Networks or CDNs. Am sure something out there can explain it better than I can.

Love that you know this stuff.

Post me a link to some "light" reading, so when I cannot drift off to sleep, I can have a ready link resource to help that along!  lol

Thank you for the detailed info..

Yes, I know IT has so many things that can affect loading etc.. I used to have serious DNS issues all too often but those finally stopped happening..

Add to that I have the WORST service on the plant; CenturyLink and in a very rural area so no alternative to turn too..

I have gone 5 days with my Internet down and with no signal at my house for my cell... I had to drive to the nearest little town to get Internet..

Ahhh the joys of mountain life..

@katzrul15  if you noticed any of your favorite sites go down a few days ago in the brief internet-pocalypse, that's how it works - or sometimes doesn't. 🤣

I know you were joking about the light reading, but if it interests you at all this article has a pretty good basic run down. lol

Re: Servers Down on Down Detector..again

Here's the downdetector status page right now.

I think some perspective is in order.

The three tallest spikes - 11:06am, 2:51pm, and 5:51pm - are each based on reports from seven users.

Not ten-thousand users.

Not a thousand users.

Not a hundred users.

Not even a dozen users.

Seven.
