Selling

Trusting my gut and not wanting to send an item to "buyer". Afraid it may be a scam.

What is the repercussion if I just cancel the order?

Re: Selling

Also no returns, does not mean no refunds.  Ebay gives a 30 day money back guarantee to all buyers and...

In the case of an authenticator sale, I am not sure that applies.  It seems to me, that a "no returns" policy would result in a "final sale" instead of a phony SNAD.

If the seller's trading card listing specifies that they don't accept returns, the purchase through Authenticity Guarantee is considered a final sale.

Thank you for clarifying. I always appreciate good advice and help in a positive way. You're very good about being informative, without shaming or blasting fellow posters.

My opinion is the MBG may still have some glitches in some respects.   Not only that but how does a new seller get to start selling high dollar items right off the bat?  In the payments forum there was a poster their who was from Pakistan.  They were able to sign on,  list a few items, however they had no payment method for the buyer to pay.  How is that possible? Is Ebay just allowing people to just randomly sign on and sell from there.  That's going to hurt the buyers.  More thoughts on this from you would be helpful and always appreciated.

Given that new piece of info, I can now understand where you're coming from.

@ckimodog

That is the old "$65,000 question" dilemma.   A few months back (when we had daily posts about products listed 'in a wrong category' and no MBG protection) I also saw new zero feedback sellers that enrolled the same week with thousands of dollars of merchandise for sale under their newbie account.  All were foreign based.  What they did was list a wooden spoon for $4 and then REVISE the listing into a GPU, I phone, gaming laptop, camera etc. for $800 or so.  The new products that were then reflected under the same listing number were still WAY underpriced which would fall under the "too good to be true" scam scenario.  No matter that the photos and description were hijacked/copied from another REAL listing, the stuff SOLD like hotcakes even when reported in advance.  They had eBay checkout.  It was just that nobody could file a claim for 'non delivery' since there was no MBG.  Did the scam sellers get any money?  Probably, until eBay's excuse of no MBG was shown to be fraudulent, no longer believed,  and eBay started having to pay out and put an end to their scammer's career.  I believe some of these sellers also used variations of the "fake tracking scam" as well to show delivery to the local KFC with a cheap trinket purchased on Amazon or Etsy, or a number purchased on the net from a site that caters to those that had the need for the tracking numbers for nefarious purposes.

Since I have not read the thread to which you refer, I cannot comment on how a person could list with no way for a buyer to pay.  I do remember when the last transitions to Managed Payments were underway here, eBay often allowed the sellers to list, but simply held their money until they complied with the requirements.  Others were not allowed to list at all until they were in compliance.  Sort of seemed "random".  Maybe what 'server' you hit when you tried to list, a glitch, or intended change????

As far as the "card authenticator" program, I believe buyers have 3 days instead of 30 for a MBG claim.  As with the other categories, it is still not clear what happens to the seller should the buyer simply bypass the eBay requirements and go directly to their credit card for a refund.

Re: Selling

To me, Ebay seems to be a minefield for sellers. My experience, even though quite limited. Most of the sellers commenting on the forum seem to be agreeing in one way or another. "If you can't take the loss, then this is not the place," and "Ebay is a buyer centric platform" and doesn't protect sellers nearly as much as buyers. I listed one item this evening and my first buyer was most likely a scammer (since their address doesn't show as a deliverable address in any database I searched). I don't need this stress.

Re: Selling

and the "winner" never paid so I had to wait 4 days to cancel the order and put it back up to sell.

In that case, you are okay and did not get a Defect or charged fees for not completing the transaction.

But if this is the second time listed and you cancelled the sale after the buyer paid,  you will at the very least get a Defect, and you may find yourself hit with fees anyway if eBay decides you and the buyer took the sale "off eBay"  cheating them out of their fees.
