Selling fees & final value fees

Selling fees | eBay

You are, of course, always welcome to come here to ask, but you can, and may be better served to use "help & contact" (located on many eBay pages) to find policies on a multitude of eBay subjects.

Using that will give you the "official" without subjective nonsense from the uninformed, or the haters 😁

Fees can vary by price, shipping cost, sales tax, listing category, seller rating, buyer location, seller store subscription level, seller metrics, and whether it is promoted.

eBay has a whole page devoted to explaining fees:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

Just remember that fees are calculated based on the total amount the buyer pays - including shipping and sales tax.

So if you sell a set of golf clubs for $50 and it costs $50 to ship them and the buyer pays 10% sales tax, you will pay fees based on $110 and not $50.

You can open Help/Contact (it is on every page) and type in "Selling fees" in the search box. Everything will be covered by reading that including what the FVF are for different categories.

"What are & what percentage are the fees charged for selling golf clubs"

The straightforward answer:  13.25% of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.

Read that again.  Especially the bolded six words:  The Total Amount Of The Sale.

The total amount of the sale can include five things:  cost of the Thing + shipping costs + sales tax in effect at the delivery zip code + handling costs + "other applicable fees."  That last part would be state-mandated fees like California's electronics recycling fees, which obviously would not apply to golf clubs.  Remember also that some states do impose sales taxes on the cost of postage/shipping.

Since gold clubs are oversize on shipping Ebay will take around 24% of your asking price. Glad you came here before you got the sticker shock. Do not believe those who live in the past and will try convincing you Ebay only takes 13.25%.

Since you have already sold golf clubs you can check for yourself the fees charged. Go to Seller Hub and click on "Payments" then under Details click on  "View". I see that you sold a set of irons which probably gave you sticker shock when you saw the fees.

eBay does not charge extra for oversized packages, the shipping service does. The fee is based on the total but still is 13.25% of THE TOTAL PAID BY THE BUYER. Postage, cost of acquiring product and overhead are not fees, they are write off able business expenses.

Ok… ~24% of the item selling price,

13.25% of the total payment received,

1.52% of your utility bill,

125% of a takeout burger meal…

or follow @susanb1872 suggestion and look at your actual numbers.

So you'll pay 13.25% of the ENTIRE TRANSACTION including shipping and sales tax - Since shipping will be high and so will sales tax on a $500 to $1000 set of clubs, the fee on the entire sale will likely equate to about 20% of the item's asking price - Thats a big hit right off the top - But hey... its only 13.25%??...🤔🙄😕

On our main selling account we sell over $700,000 annually on the platform.

Clubs are 13.25%, like most categories. Ours is 12.35%, but yours will be 13.25%. Most golf club sales are singular clubs, not sets. I don’t know from where 24% comes or from where the idea comes that clubs are oversized and therefore shipping is more expensive. Ship them UPS, average label cost at 2 lbs is $10. Even if you sell a set a set of irons, there is no oversize charge. One example given here was $50 shipping-we’ve never paid anywhere close to that, even for an 8-10 lb set.

Charge $15 for shipping, and dismiss anyone who contacts you saying you’re charging too much.  At average cost of $10 per label, the extra $5 will cover eBay’s 13.25% that will come off the top plus the cost of the box if you start to sell enough to have to purchase them. If you do this, shipping will not be a factor in deciding if you can profit from the sale of the club. We treat shipping is as its own entity; a cost passed to the customer entirely, including eBay’s fees.

For mathematical simplicity we’ll use $100 sale, and  a state/local sales of 10%. Add .30 per transaction and we’re at $110.30.

110.30 at 13.25% is $14.35, or 14.35%. When we are speculating as to if we should purchase for resale on eBay, we use 15%.

I’m posting this to help the OP, not to get into a discussion/argument about fees or how we calculate our real or potential profit. It’s a pointless exercise in this forum.

" from where the idea comes that clubs are oversized" Most people would be shipping USPS, so yes the because of the length of the box, it would be oversized and would be charged a surcharge.

I’m aware of the shipping prices in the industry. It was originally stated as though there were no other options. That’s why I said ship them UPS.

Do not believe those who live in the past and will try convincing you Ebay only takes 13.25%.

Most posters use 13.25% as the most common FVF , but it actually varies from 0.5% (a promotional rate) to 15%,

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

And if the seller earns Defects there could be a ~5% penalty added on, along with restrictions in the number and value of listings allowed.

And right up near the top of that page:

Final value fees

We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.

The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees.

Nothing being kept secret, although some posters use sloppy language, and others can't seem to understand that charging fees on the TOTAL buyer payment has been Standard Practice in the payment processing  industry since before we got our first merchant credit card account with Moneris back in the late 70s.
