Typical situation for me is that I need to sell one item by the buyer's request, but is the risk that someone will buy this item before this buyer when I listed this item. What is the best solution for this situation?

List it at a super high starting price with Best Offer. Have him make an offer for the agreed amount and that's the one you accept.
There are other ways, but that one is pretty safe.
Great! 45.8% down over the same time last year with 2x+ items listed. Are you impressed? I'm certainly not!

Triple the price and open it to best offer and tell the buyer you will accept the offer.
That way if it sells at triple the price you won't feel to bad.
Prov 20:14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

I learned the hard way. Buyer asked for lower price and I lowered the price. Another buyer bought it and he was not a happy camper.
eBay send emails out to watchers when you lower the price or even if you looked at an item sometimes.

I have done this many times by leaving brief title and SPC for buyer name. 1st line of listing repeats SPC for buyer name. Please do not purchase unless you are the intended. You can use buyer name or any code word you and buyer want to use.
I don't usually do the best offer because it does not require immediate payment. I leave all details in the listing along with the full title moved to the description area ( in case there is any question later)
I ALWAYS use immediate payment. That way you can give them a heads up that it is there ready for them and get it SOLD.
Never had any problems doing this.

I create a listing "custom order for xxx", I include a picture of the item so the buyer will be confident they are getting what they want. List the item, send the buyer a link.
I've done this dozens of time and never had anyone else buy the item. It also makes it difficult for anyone else to see that I gave a special price to a specific buyer.
Into your life it will creep

I had a seller do that for me once, but another buyer still purchased it. They did not care that the listing specified it was for someone else. The seller decided to cancel the other person's transaction and ended up with a defect.
