I'm trying to list some adult men's magazines from the 90s. Some are Playboy but there are others as well. I get a message stating that these magazines are restricted and cannot be posted but I see other postings for the exact same magazines on Ebay.

A quick check for 'Playboy 1990' shows a ton of stuff where the seller just placed white squares of paper over the nudity. There are in fact centerfolds offered quite prominently so you should follow suit with censoring anything too racy.
However, you imply the message is 'blocking'. It is perhaps just a strong warning and you can proceed with listing? If you are getting blocked, list the specifics of how it is blocking.
In general listing in 'Adult Only' vs Censoring an 18+ item is a bit like the Rated X vs Rated R from the movie industry if that helps.

This is the actual policy.....the creative sellers are stretching this by putting 1 Playboy in with 5 smut magazines and only putting "Playboy Lot of 6 Magazines" in the title with Hustler, or other explicit mags in the pile. Also, there are about 20 some Playboy mag covers from the late 60's and 70's mostly that (if you look close) violate the nudity aspect of the policy..(look for example at some January issues and the portraits. The most egregious offender is December 1974 as an example. If they have asked you once, don't push it, you will be given a few days off with your next violation.
The following items are allowed only under the conditions outlined below:

As I understand eBay's policy, nudity (hiding sensitive parts of a magazine cover) is okay. It's magazines with sexual ACTIVITY portrayed in them that is not accepted. So old magazines from the 1950s to the 1980s should be okay.
