I sold my motorcycle to a member in Germany. He's been a member for 10 years and has 400 positive reviews. He wants to pay for the bike through paypal (2800) and have a shipper pick it up. I'd specified local pickup only. Anything I should be aware of? Thanks in advance.

They don't have motorcycles in Germany?
What if he files an item not as described case once he gets it?

you should be very aware that the MBG still applies to local pickup.if the bike is picked up then you are still on the hook for return shipping if they decide they do not like it any more
local pickup means CASH in hand

I took a look at the sale.I will be the 1st person to tell you I do not know anything about ebay motors but a buyer from Germany,I mean what gives. Vehicle sales with buyers from another country are often problematic.
I do not want to says its a scam but local pickup with ebay regular items is easy to undo with the MBG.

(1) Why didn't you stick with "Local Pickup Only" (in giant black letters)?
(2) What's your plan for when this bike is received in Germany by the buyer and he claims it's not as described?
(3) Personally, I would cancel, citing problem with buyer's address.

Agree...Local pickup only...this is asking for trouble and you don't need the agro!

He would have a shipper pick it up...........
That used to be a pretty big scam......
I'm with others, cancel.......due to address.......too many possible pitfalls........

Actually, he put the initial deposit on pp after negotiating for a day. It wasn't the typical 'by now' set up. Looking at his FB was an additional sign he's legit. I do think I'll cancel though after offering the option to pay the full price at time of pickup in cash. If that doesn't work, I'm out. Thanks

I sold a car to a buyer in Atlanta (I'm in Cali)- they sent someone to inspect it, then go get and bring me back cash. Shipper was there 2 days later.
Cash in hand only on vehicles (or should be on anything over $1g) as a good practice

Yes, that's how vehicle sales on eBay usually work. Only the deposit is paid through PayPal, it should never be used to pay the entire amount for a vehicle. Vehicle sales are not covered by PayPal buyer or seller protection, but if the buyer funded it with a credit card, they can get their money back anyway.
He may be a legitimate collector. It looks like a really nice bike, but I would be concerned because it looks like it was probably the one of the most expensive ones available. So, either a collector who wants that specific bike, or a scammer.
UNLESS ... you might have accepted an offer for higher than the asking price? If so, then it's definitely a scam.
If it's a legitimate collector and he really wants, he'll figure out a way to get it inspected by someone local to you and then pay cash for it. So hold out for that.
FYI, if you do cancel, there's a good change the guy would be able to get his deposit refunded, so you might want to do that voluntarily.

Thanks for all the replies. You reinforced my concerns. I sent the following response to him. I' guessing the deal will blow up but you never know.
Manfred,
I've done some research and I'm not comfortable with transacting this on paypal. You seem like a reputable person but there are so many scams in the US, it's hard to be certain. I'll hold the bike for you until the shipper can get here but I will need full payment in cash at that time. I'll refund you're paypal deposit when the shipper arrives. If you're uncomfortable with this, I understand and will stop the sale are refund your deposit.
