Can someone tell me if this sounds correct? I am entering my 1st sell of an item worth $500. I am being told when I try to list, that my limit exceeds my limit of $10. This doesn't sound correct, and I can't find any useful help information that makes sense, or how to overcome this error.

Yes, it's fairly common for new sellers to have listing limits of 1 item and $10 per month.

List something inexpensive that you know will sell quickly. Complete the transaction successfully and you'll probably get an increase a month later.
eBay also puts payment holds on new seller accounts, generally 15-30 days.

A $10 limit indicates that your account is missing important information, or else your information has expired and must be updated.
Contact eBay directly to update your account information and to get your limit raised.
To contact eBay, use the chat assistant to request a call back by starting on the Help & Contact page and following the links for your issue.
What options you see may depend on your particular issue and how busy that department is at the moment.
Try entering "agent" into the chat window. You may have to provide some context to reach the correct department. If you see a "Still need help?" or "More options" choice, either of those should lead to a call back option.
If nothing else works, try this link between 5am to 9:30pm Pacific Time:
