Ebay's selling fees are getting completely ridiculous! Check out, in your summary, what you sold items for and what you actually ended up with after FEES! Was it worth all of your hard work?

I only use calculated shipping on heavy items where the cost differences will be significant between different buyer locations. As postage prices increase that weight threshold becomes lower and lower. At current prices, the online Priority Mail postage cost for a 3-pound package ranges from $8.42 to $18.45.
Yes indeed, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ship with free shipping anything over 1 lb and even first class can vary by a few bucks. But my gross margins are so high I can easily absorb those cost differences.

Why did you list your items for the ridiculous price just to be disappointed for what the item sold for and the profit you decided you were happy with in the first place? You knew the fees upfront.
Sellers are responsible for their own listings.
Sellers control the price they choose to list the item for.

I am a private seller. I had a few listings still active they were in an open ended listing, and I just forgot about them. I was out of town and one of the items was sold. I was not notified because eBay requested me to update my information for tax purposes. After noticing the item sold, I also noted the final payout fee. This led me to investigate because the amount eBay was taking seemed too much. I guess eBay increased their fee bases. Long story short- I cancelled the sell and closed all the listing, and I will never sell on eBay again. Greedy is all I can say. I wonder how long eBay will be relevant in the market place. And to give the situation a middle finger eBay added a $.30 insertion fee after wanting $575 selling fee. Seriously, what is this company thinking. Oh-yah, greedy.

In 2013, eBay set the final value fee rate at 10%, in most categories, for sellers who don' t have a Store subscription. Sellers also paid to PayPal a fee of 30 cents plus 2.9%. Total: 12.9% plus 30 cents.
Currently the FVF rate in most categories is 12.9%, about the same as it was in 2013. The 30 cents is not an insertion fee; it's part of the final value fee. You get 250 free basic insertions per month.

I am not in this for a debate about fees, but I do have a question, Your sale piqued my interest....
Are you able to net 3900.00 for that coin from a dealer or a pawn shop (or another venue that might sell for a smaller percentage)....I may not know what I'm talking about, but it appears I can buy this same item for 4K from what appears to be a reputable online dealer.......
Maybe 3900.00 net is not a bad 'money in your pocket' for that item?
If you can only get 4000.00 for it at a 5% fee, you would only net 3800.00....
where is my thinking going wrong?
(haven't coins/bullion been 10% + 2.9% paypal for years?)

Your reply piqued my interest....
How long have you worked for eBay trying to justify over charging fees.

you're kidding, right?
my FIRST LINE said "...I am not in this for a debate about fees, but I do have a question..."
I have similar items that I have been 'sitting' on....I just wondered what the thought process was to walk away from 3800.00? thats all. Seems like when I go to a gold/silver dealer, all they want to give me is about 60% of the value I see in my research....

LOL. Wow the people who just think they only pay 12%is kinda crazy. Go ahead and believe when you sell that $50 item and Ebay takes $12 of it. I'm done because I know what Ebay charges me. They even let me know in seller hub. There fee count is even listed in seller hub and are the same as mine approximately 20% or so.

@janet9988 wrote:Why would you list an item valued at 80.00 for only $47.00 ????????
@janet9988 So simple to answer I have no clue why you would even have to ask. I'll answer anyway just for you. If an item sells at the store for $80 and you sell that same item on Ebay, no one will ever pay $80 plus an additional $33 to have it shipped. Just so you know I would never actually go to a store and do that, BUT I do have many items that typically sell or $80 at collectable stores. There is no choice but to list it at $47 when Ebay takes 20% and the rest has to go for shipping.

ebay has changed their policies and included sales tax in the final value fee calculation, at the same rate as the rest of the sale. in general this another 1-2% loss on the part of the seller. Oh yeah, fees are going up some more too, now that ebay has made it much harder for buyers to find your items. Thanks?

I sold a coin for $300 and after all fees, I ended up getting $261.00 I think that is a little too much. I just spoke to a friend that had sold something for the same price and she got $14 more than I did. Then when you look at it most of the headache is on eBay, not us. There are some things that I wish didn't take so much than others I set to cover the difference. But most of the time when I price I forget about the fees, and i screw myself.

@coolections wrote:@magz7 Don't tell anyone here that, they believe it only cost 12.5%. 😄
No, cool. We know what the FEES are, and FEES are only a part of the TOTAL selling cost.
Fees are expenses.
Shipping costs are expenses.
Many things that are not fees are expenses.
Expenses are NOT fees, and fees are NOT more than the published rate, no matter what that rate may be and how you want to phrase it. Your total EXPENSES may be far more than 30%, but your FEES will NEVER be more than the published rate.
