From the eBay prohibited items list. Of course this does not stop people from listing them.

The following are not allowed:

  • Ammunition for firearms, including bullets, cartridges, casings, shells, and hulls

Even if it was allowed, I personally wouldn't want the responsibility of shipping hazardous items through any freight carrier.  ANY mishaps occurring during travel of that shipment will come back to YOU.

I do a lot of gun sales on gunbroker. Pretty sure I can say that since they are not a direct competitor of eBay due to the type of products that are sold.

Only UPS and FEDEX (ground only) allows the shipment of ammunition and the boxes have to be specially labeled. As long as you declare it and apply the black diamond sticker on it, the shipping company accepts the liability other than package damage or loss.

Pretty much agree with you on the "hazardous" part but it would be nice if you could list things like bullets, brass cases, shotgun shell hulls none of which are hazardous. When I used to reload I was always buying bullets online by the thousands with no special requirements.  Loaded ammunition is another story but it can still be purchased online although there are some states that have restrictions or laws about the shipment and receipt of loaded ammunition.

I fully agree. I also do not understand why brass and bullets are lumped into the general bundle term of " ammunition". Individually, the only harm I can do with a cartridge case or boattail bullet is throw it at someone. I have to insert a primer, measure a portion of powder, fill the casing, cap it with a bullet, THEN load it into a firearm before I can even think of doing harm with it. Any individual part of that assembly is USELESS on its own.

At any rate, the general trend today is to " just say no"  to all things firearm- related. But the way things are going, lawmakers think that the general population can't be trusted with anything sharper than a foam rubber football, who knows what's next?

Good to know. My comment was basically that I personally would still hope not to test the theory of responsibility if there was ever an issue.

I've signed a lot of contracts that have a lot of  " * "  exceptions which mean, " if we are looking at a serious issue, we self-declare we won't be held responsible, and wish you good luck"...

I hope that someday, some form of common sense will prevail and some of these limitations are lifted.

I searched this board for posts about ammunition, and almost every one I saw got answered quite quickly with a link to the same information that you were given here.

It's a 'woke' thing.

The Nanny Socialists are trying to save us mouth-breathing Neanderthals from ourselves.

The same group that makes us wear a helmet on a motorcycle, seatbelts in a car, etc.

It's for our own good.
