Sellers who use UPS: how do you get compensated for lost packages marked as delivered?

UPS marked package as delivered, but it wasn`t (UPS truck just drove by and never stopped, but one minute later status changed as Delivered).

Receiver filed claim (online chat prompted to file claim). Two minutes later UPS already completed investigation (tried to locate the package and contacted the driver or so I was told by UPS rep)-too good to be that efficient?

Then, UPS informed the receiver to contact shipper/seller, so shipper can request paperwork. Why even option for receiver to file a claim if shipper has to do all the work? And how does it work for both receiver (it shows as delivered, but not), and the shipper?

Shipping claims are always the responsibility of the person who did the shipping.

The claim, IF paid, will be paid to the person who shipped the package.

The item is considered delivered when UPS, or any other shipping company, shows delivered.

Sounds like UPS online claim was handled by bots (if UPS driver scanned item as delivered then inquiry would be closed).   It is possible that driver will discover this "leftover package" in their truck at the end of the day and delivery to customer eventually.

I believe you can do the claim online through your UPS account as well, but you may consider a call to UPS. You'll have to give them your shipper number and ask them to do a lost pacakge claim. Usually takes about 8 days. Then you can claim the package value. The claim goes with the shipper, not the receiver.

@brandsonhands The person who ships is always responsible for filing the claim. You get the payout from the claim if you win. You can't make the buyer wait to receive a refund once they open an official case. If they open an item not received case on eBay they will likely lose because it says delivered, but if you know for a fact after contacting UPS that it was not delivered to the buyer; the right thing to do would be for you to file a claim, refund the buyer, and then collect your money from UPS at a later date.
