Am I the only seller that thinks eBay needs to level the playing field and let sellers leave negative comments in the feedback? Buyers can (and do) say anything they want in Feedback but sellers have to be nice or silent.
Brand non-payers with a visable negative mark on their feedback and it might reduce (or shame) some of them into stopping it. Sure they are legitimate reasons to not pay but speak up -- don't just go silent and not pay. Those are the ones that should be exposed as fakes.
Even worse I had one pay and then within an hour write and say I want a credit.
I hd one in feedback make a negative comment about an item saying something was broken when the auction clearly labeled that bit as broen but being included at no extra charge if the buyer wanted to try and repair it. To eBay's credit they did cancel that feddback but only after I called them and expained the situation and pointed out where the auction clearly showed that information.
eBay let us leave negative (or even netural) comentss about buyers!

you need to get ebay involved in this and tell them that this seller is harassing you and provide all the info you can to let them know he sent you merchandise that was not as described.
sending messages back and forth will get you nowhere with this person

The "return item not as described" process has already been activated. The seller made it clear from their first reply how the process would go down "You liar, I have great feedback, this is outrageous, you liar, you haven't sent the items back, you liar, what's your game here, you liar, I know why you're doing this and you wont get away with it, you lair" etc etc.
I tried to research what to do about profanity and threats in ebay private messages, but the ebay help page doesn't offer any links to actually report anything.
I believe the 'correct' course of action is to 'ignore' these messages, as postulated by the person above yourself.
Once again, its a shame that you're only responding under the guise of treating my post as one unconnected from the conversation as a whole, I believe I used my example to make a point relevant to the thread, and it would be a shame if you derail the conversation into a "what stuffbuyer should be doing" sub-diversion.

If that's the correct course of action then what's the beef, just don't partisipate.
I get it

Your post actually added little to the conversation since the seller CAN'T leave negative feedback.
As for the begs you left him....if you can't prove the items were returned, eBay will find the case in his favor, and then he can have them removed.

In a message earlier today he claimed he was "fed up of my bull**** and that he's panning to have my negative feedback removed" (only he didn't use the stars). After I replied that he has my money and the items he messaged me to say "Keep this up and your account will be closed", to which I replied "Oh, how ironic that would be..." to which he replied "Go away, stop bothering me", to which I replied "I'll go away when you stop sending me messages boasting about how you're going to remove my negative feedback", to which he replied "my messages are a reply to your feedback".
So this guy misrepresented his items, sent items that were not as described, refused the return of said items, called me a liar all through the process, still denies recieving the goods back, still persists in making me out to be the bad guy, and is now threatening me via private ebay messages.
Looking at his history, he started ebay'ing in 2005. He still seems to think he's listing on ebay version 2005...
So... if you don't see me around...
You are the buyer so why are you telling me your story? If I were you, I would not have replied to the seller. You seem about as guilty of slander as the seller was based on those messages you described. I would have called eBay and reported the seller for threats and attempts to intimidate you through the eBay message system.

Perhaps still show the number of transactions a buyer or seller has, but just eliminate the feedback.
Really, it's useless. I don't think I've ever once gone to buy something from a seller and the feedback was a deturrent for me.
You may not use feedback to determine who you buy from but other people do. It should not be eliminated because you say it is useless. I happen to believe it is not useless. How else will I know that I am buying from a seller who has a habit of never shipping or other unpleasant behavior?

Thanks for the helpful link.
I would provide the actual conversations that took place, but when I tried to post the entire exchange as a thread it didn't post onto the forum. Today I recieve a message from the mods telling me that we arn't allowed to post the exact wording from private messages. All I can do is assure you that the seller was hostile in the extreme from the moment they recieved a request for a return and refund. If not replying to people is what we are supposed to do, it would be great if that was stressed during the process, just as it would be great if people we'ren't allowed to start a return without entering a postal tracking number and it was made plain from the start that if you open a return you MUST use tracking.
As with most things on this site, it seems people are encouraged to walk into a hole and then, once they are in a hole someone drops down a legal document explaining why you are in a hole.

Well, the conversation is about whether sellers SHOULD be allowed to leave negative feedback, so your comment that they can't is redundant, unless you're posting that to everyone who talks about this topic.
Regarding feedback removal, I've had an extremely negative experience. The seller is an extremely unpleasant and non-customer oriented person, regardless of all the other factors. That they can remove transaction feedback based on a technicality is really quite unusual in the retail world. Even my local burgur bar isn't allowed to remove feedback from their search page, regardless of how weird some of the complaints may be.

I think they need to do away with the comments in feedback and have preselected choices that the sellers and buyers could choose, positive or negative.

I am really not responding to anyone here just hit the last reply button. I have to say that I am happy I came across this thread because I was feeling kind of funky re feedback (I’m a seller as well as a buyer). As a seller I leave feedback as soon as I post, and as a buyer I leave feedback as soon as I can when I receive the item. It has been calculated on another thread that during the course of one year I did not receive 51 feedbacks - so was feeling funky and at times was wishing I could give negative feedback to those non feedback givers. But now, because of what I read on this thread I have a new outlook e.g. NO FEEDBACK IS BETTER THAN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.

Tracking is not a requirement to sell and ship items on eBay so for those cases that the item was shipped in a white envelope (sports cards, stamps, coins, stickers, decals, tattoos, letters articles all kinds of media, pictures, etc) which is a very large number how is a tracking number suppose to be provided in the case details?
You are thinking about this only from a sellers perspective and not a very good position at that. Buyers should not have to prove anything when they open a case. An opened case does not make the seller or buyer a villain. It simply means this transaction need more attention. Sellers should have and retain all info to use for open cases.
After all it is the sellers responsibility to make sure the item gets delivered to the buyer. We sellers assume because we did all the steps and shipped the item that it will get delivered and a majority of the time they do get delivered on time but that does not take away our responsibility's to the transaction.
No one encouraged you to walk into a hole on eBay, but you were encouraged when you signed up as a seller to read the info provided, and learn about the details, You are given seller updates to your email address. You are reminded when you list things.
If you are falling into holes as a seller on eBay then you probably need to focus better on your business and how to be successful selling on eBay. I liken this to a person walking and texting and causing havic for everyone else in there path, because you the seller does not want to do the hard work to become successful or you simply do not care enough.
Many of the regulars here in the forum are of the professional mindset, where they either learned the hard way as you seem to follow or they took the time to learn to do this correctly. Now you have a choice on what to do moving forward. Do you want to be proud of your acheivement as an online seller on the worlds largest marketplace for third party sellers or do you just want to sit on the sidelines and occasioanlly step onto the field?
You are not a user name I recall and my only experience with you as a member is in this thread that you are complaining about something it appears you have not thought out very well.
Being a salesperson which you are as an online seller means you have to adjust your personal positions on things. It really is all about the buyer not you the seller. As you learn new techniques to satisfy the buyer you also learn what not to do next time and how to be pro-active to avoid the extra time and stress selling online inherits. Like all things you get better with practice, and you can make huge jumps by learning how things are done properly before you step on the field.

The MBG, even on the UK site, reccomends you return the item with tracking. No tracking, no proof of return.
Ebay UK seller protection states the following
https://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/how-we-protect
The eBay Money Back Guarantee is designed to allow buyers to make purchases with confidence.
It also protects sellers in the following ways:
In addition, we automatically remove defects, adjust the seller's late delivery rate and remove Feedback when we close an eBay Money Back Guarantee case or appeal request in favour of the seller.
The case WILL be found in the sellers favor since you cant prove the return. Now you've had enough experiance as a buyer and a seller that you should be familiar with the policies.
Ebay doesnt allow you to fall in to a hole, you allowed yourself to fall in to it by not reading the policies
