Sellers blame eBay when their sales are down.

Why do they blame eBay for that?

The economy is down. People tend to cut back on buying when there's nothing left after paying for necessities.

Maybe people are waking up

Some people just don't want to hear that nobody wants what they are selling or they are too overpriced, or their pictures are awful and descriptions lacking. Sometimes it is just easier to blame ebay then yourself.

It is easier to blame Ebay rather than the items they are listing that nobody wants.

TEMU I believe is SMOKIN with sales and I buy a lot from them. Their prices and product are excellent.

TEMU is adding new buyers rapidly. According to the Wall Street Journal, those buyers are not returning to TEMU to buy again after their first purchase.

If you are competing with TEMU you are going to lose money. it is not clear that they are making money on their sales either.

A manufactured to be collectible. Nothing organic about their sales. Each product is destined to reach the point where all of the sales are for broken items in someone's collection. Exactly what happened to Bradford Exchange collectibles before them.

It makes me question how eBay actually indexes their database and what items get better placement over others.

Among other points , the more you sell the higher your placement in Search.

And since there seems to be a rotation of listings that shows us higher in one location* than another, which makes a sort of sense, if we sell in one location, our listings get more prominence in that location. And if we sell one type of thing, our other similar items gets slightly higher placement.

Which is why I will sell nothing in New York for months then have three sales there in as many days, then nothing again. Or sell no sewing patterns (different account) for two weeks then have eight sales in as many days.

And as others have said, fresh stock. Constantly listing new material.

But mostly sales beget sales.

There have been SEVERAL occasions when I want to post an item for sale & decide to check active listings.  Seeking possible competition and/or pricing info.  I find nothing in an eBay search.  This mean I have 0 competition if I make mine available?  No.  Because I go to Google search & see eBay does have active listings.  They are not selling so I do not bother to list mine.  Good thing I check with a reliable source before wasting my time.  🙂

It's bad when you have to use a search engine outside of Ebay to find items on Ebay.

Have a great day.

Wow, a whole thread dedicated to supporting some idea that eBay is not to blame for things not selling on eBay.

Dissenting opinion points:

1) eBay wanted to be the go-to Chinese junk store before there was Temu. Temu did it better, so eBay is probably considered by some portion of the population to be the "overpriced chinese junk store".

2) Sure, you can sell brand new PS5s here for $100 and sell out quickly, but I'd bet none of them will be purchased by someone who is actually going to use it. I've watched eBay become a place where stuff priced way too low is bought to be flipped somewhere else. I've done it myself.

3) Search results are manipulated garbage.

4) For every claim that the problems people have here is: "the economy, nobody wants your stuff, your price is too high, your photos suck, your description is lacking" - why do things sell daily for market price elsewhere? Why is traffic so much higher elsewhere? Why is potential buyer engagement like offers and questions higher elsewhere?

I say eBay has lost whatever mojo it once had and buyers are no longer going to pay eBay's overhead when they can find the same thing for less elsewhere. That is the root problem and all of eBay's tinkering and attempts to grab extra money only exacerbate it.

anyone thinking that ebay can't or won't throttle you hasn't been on ebay long enough

...and of course other sellers can pay to do it to you as well.

I pay 2.2% to do it to all of you.

Sellers have made this claim for years but never have offered proof / evidence that they do this.

It makes no financial sense for Ebay to "throttle" sales on any seller.

But in the User Agreement, they tell you that your listings may not display in some search returns.  It has said this for years.  So Ebay does tell us that our listings aren't always displayed in some search returns.

In Part 6 of the User Agreement.

  • To drive a positive user experience, a listing may not appear in some search and browse results regardless of the sort order chosen by the buyer,

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/user-agreement?id=4259#section1

This happens because of the shear volume of listings in some categories or Search returns.

You literally just provided proof of something you say no one has ever provided proof of.

Yeah, because as we know, everybody wants another billionaire tax cut and to get rid of Social Security, and Biden won 't give us that.

It’s so bad for us that we are trading in our Ford F150 truck that is 4 years old with like 30000 miles for an economy SUV. WE CANNOT TOLERATE an over 500 a month payment for this monster truck.

I'm sorry you have ran into issues that are causing you to trade your truck in.  On the bright side the SUV will be do less harm to the climate change issues.  And it won't take near as much money to fill the tank.

I use to drive a truck.  Not as big as the F150, but a truck, I loved my truck.  I traded it in 5 years ago for a sedan.  The difference is gas costs is so great.  Even to this day I get amazed at the difference.

I hope everything works out for you the way you need it to.

It is more like trying to make up for the difference in their paychecks and the price of food, gas, housing and other essentials.
