Good video explaining - how little sellers benefit with managed payments as far as fees. Promises - promises!

Of course there is!!!!!!!!!!!! I expect the fee to increase as we get closer to mandatory MP.

I get a lot of buyers who buy from variations listings but pay for every item separately because they don't use the cart.
It may be also that 'buyers who buy from variations listings but pay for every item separately because they don't are not able use the cart (fixed that for ya).
There are many instances where "add to cart" or "commit to buy and continue shopping with this seller" is NOT made available. It is more of a "pay or don't get it" program that leads directly to check out.

With the recent announcement of per listing managed payment fees it will be even more important to have the variations option in more categories.
That indeed is not in ebay's best interest. They want the extra $$$$. That is the point of the whole thing regarding the added fees. Why would they make it easier for a seller to avoid the added fees?

Has anyone seen anything in writing that says if a buyer buys a blue sweater, a red sweater, and a black sweater .... all in the same variation listing .... that the seller will only be charged ONE .25 transaction fee under Managed Payments ?
My gut feeling tells me that if each of the 3 sweaters show up on the seller's Ebay account as individual FVF's, then under the same twisted logic, the seller would be charged 3 individual transaction fees.

If all those sweaters are under ONE item number there will only be one 25 cent assessment. They add a pair of sandals, pants, and a toothbrush from three other of your listings (different item numbers) you are then up to a $1.00 plus the %, With PayPal it would only be 30 cents plus the % even if the buyer got ten more things for one payment.
The ebay blue on the payments board outlined this, and the two in the weekly chat copied and pasted the same.
The Managed Payments TOS changes quite regularly, and it is not something people normally observe. The revision was announced on ECB, though the users already in Managed Payments were apparently informed of the update.
The .25 cent fee per item number is what they say now. Know it can change at any time.

I did some rough calculations and an average order for me will go from a $.75 fee (5% of total sale) to a $1.41 fee (9% of total sale). IMHO, this is going to hit sellers of low priced items pretty hard
I'd like to know if the overseas sellers are also subject to that additional 25 cents? I'm just disappointed as I do think it will bring in more buyers - but at what cost? They promised us a significant savings and better seller protection - so far I see neither.
Managed payments is only available to US sellers right now so it would pretty much be a guess for any eBay rep to even try to answer this question.
I am surprised there has not been more uproar about this? I tried my best in the weekly chat. I guess until it effects sellers they do not really know about or care about what is to come?
Good Luck Selling!

I completely agree. PayPal offers a micropayments option for sellers of low priced items. MP is going to hit those sellers the hardest. They will have to adapt or lose their business.
mcdougle, you might want to think about setting up variation listings to offer different quantities in the same listing... variations for a single item, set of 2, set of 4, etc.

Paypal seller protection actually does a good job of covering those claims as long as the seller ships to the address provided with tracking. You can easily get a couple of those UA claims in a year and from everything I've seen and asked about, there is zero official protection being offered in MP. The seller will lose the entire amount of the payment contested by the credit card plus a chargeback fee as icing on the cake.
What I don't get is why at this early stage eBay is giving up the carrot of significantly lower fees to entice sellers into the program? There are still very few sellers in the MP, so you'll need some enticement to ease the process. From what I see that's all out the door for short term revenue boost and it'll need to all stick going forward forcing folks into the program. Chaos ahead guaranteed.
Ebay has been about nothing but the short term gains since Donohoe took over as that was all he learned how to do at Bain Capital. The current CEO has even less experience and ideas and anybody that seems to realize that maybe not continually kicking the sellers under the bus so they can grab a couple of extra pennies suddenly leaves Ebay and not usually by choice. Ebay management wants to believe that they can pressure sellers into Promoted Listings and down the road force them all into Managed Payments and that we will all follow like sheep. They are having to turn up the fire on Managed payments already because they have to try and make up for all the revenue they keep losing due to the short term money grabs they keep making.
So Ebay will continue to brag about how Promoted Listings income is growing and will completely lose sight of the fact that Ebay is becoming one of the more expensive platforms to buy on because Sellers have to cover all of these costs that Ebay continues to throw at them. It is becoming a never ending down slide where sales will continue to go to other sites as their prices are cheaper there for the same items. I know mine are about 15% cheaper on the other sites than they are on Ebay and yet I still make more money on each sale on the other site. Eventually all of these short term Money Grabs to try and save their jobs is going to come back to roost as Sales continue to plummet all while Ebay is bragging about how much more money they are making on Promoted Listings and Managed Payments.
At some point the shareholders or the BOD are going to wake up and see what Ebay has given away to their competitors while trying to fool Wall Street and that is when Ebay will suddenly be dumping all of their assets to try and remain a force in the marketplace, or they will wind up selling off the platform at a greatly reduced value as they will have destroyed what other companies would have purchased it for, their customer base.

Thank you @goodluckselling for bringing up the topic during weekly chat. I am usually sitting in during weekly chat, but don't reply or ask a question too often, so I saw your posts.
Only a guess here...If sellers are not reading these boards, sitting in on weekly chat or already in managed payments, they might be unaware at this point. I realize, as sellers, we are responsible for keeping up with policies. For me, doing so is not always as easy as I would like.

Oh I agree, didn't even have to watch the video I'm just glad other folks see it too...
The one thing I do appreciate is it's all under one roof so the paperwork makes it easier to see at a glance.
But yeah the pumped up discount wasn't all that much to get so excited about.
