Seller still pays for shipping label after buyer pays for shipping? Confused!

I sold an item for $245 where the buyer paid $28.70 for shipping + $20.80. The ebay fees was $38.29. I should be getting $235.41 but they charged me money for shipping label costing $24.58. What is this for if buyer is paying for the shipping cost?

As others posted. Buyer pays you.

Seems that there is a site where the buyer pays the site for shipping, but not how eBay works.

Note that the buyer paid $28.70 Had that gone directly to the site you would not have earned the $4.22 difference between what the buyer paid, and the actual label cost.

That $4.22 helps you as a seller pay some of the eBay selling fees.

The buyer pays you, the seller, the shipping fee at the time he pays for the item and the state sales tax, if any.

You, the seller, use the amount the buyer paid you for shipping to pay for the shipping fee.

The buyer does not pay the shipper directly.

The buyer paid you $28.70 for shipping, right? What do you suppose you're supposed to do with that money?

Right! You're supposed to buy the shipping label the buyer paid you for. Did you think the buyer's payment of $28.70 was yours to keep?

I strongly recommend you learn how selling on eBay works before you sell anything else.

Seller still pays for shipping label after buyer pays for shipping? Confused!

Correct.  Now to the poster, let's say you took the box to the post office and bought the label there with cash or credit card, the money that the buyer paid for shipping WOULD NOT BE DEDUCTED from the funds.   The entire amount of funds would then go to your bank.

There is no other way that a buyer can buy a label.  How would you expect the buyer to give you that label to slap on the box?

The buyer has given you money to purchase a shipping label. You as the seller use the shipping money to purchase a shipping label. Since you purchased the shipping label via ebay using your available funds, ebay correctly charged you for the shipping label that you purchased for the transaction. Just remember that the buyer has already given you money for the shipping label.

Take a deep breath, everything was billed correctly in regards to the shipping label. You received money for the shipping label, and you purchased a shipping label using available funds.

Relex & have a great New Year!

I get it now. The other site I sell on doesn't work like this. If the buyer pays shipping they just deduct fees from what I get. Here they added the shipping cost so on and deducted the fees and then the cost for shipping label. Sorry, I was confused. Thank you!

Ebay does it that way because they take the 12.9% fee off the shipping too.  (It's more in some categories.)

Anyway, rest assured, that it is correct.

Can someone help me see the sense is this? Doesn’t that mean if I sell international and the buyer pays I have to set a $10 item at $40+ to account for shipping I can’t just have all my items the same price now I would have to have a U.S. price at $10 and the international price at $10 plus -an extra 40-60 to account for fees when they could just let me charge $10 for both kinds and just make the buyer pay and deduct. This makes zero sense that means I have to shut off international because I’m not gona have the price 2 different prices that makes no sense

You're using free shipping to the US.......for ground advantage.......  you charge for priority..........

you just have to add international as a shipping option.    The item price doesn't change, but they will pay extra, as they do with priority....

I note you have international options on the country drop down, but no international shipping specified.....

You’re using the eBay international shipping program so you ship the item to the US hub . You  pay the same for a label as you would for a domestic buyer. . EBay forwards the package from there.

Ok that’s basically exactly how I want it but when a buyer from Australia bought an item it was trying to get me to buy a label for $32 and people were saying I didn’t have the shipping specified but in my post it says international shipping program or priority mail international but buyer pay still have no clue what I’m doing wrong at all
