Seller rules for multiple Offers and Counteroffers:

Here is scenario I don't know what the rules are for:  (events are in chronological order)

  • I'm selling item for $60
  • Buyer A offers $30
  • Buyer B offers $45

Trying to get the most money, Can I:

  • Make Buyer A a Counteroffer of $50
  • Sell item to Buyer B for $45 before Buyer A's counteroffer expires?

I'm not sure what it means that my Counteroffer is "good for 24 hours":

  • Must I not sell to anyone until either a) Buyer A accepts my $50 counteroffer OR  b) the counteroffer expires?  OR
  • I can accept any Offer at any time even if I have made multiple counteroffers?

Thanks

Tom

Yes, you can do that.  You have no binding commitment to potential Buyer A if neither of you has yet accepted an offer or counteroffer.

Yes, you can accept any offer, or make any counteroffer, at any time regardless of how many other (counter) offers are in play.  An offer or counteroffer is "good for" a specific time interval, after which it will expire.  Active offers and counteroffers also will expire immediately if the item is sold, whether through an offer or at full price.

It means your counter offer expires in 24 hours if the buyer does not accept it.

Personally, I don’t play the offer game. Either the buyer pays the listed price or move along.

Until  the item is actually paid for you can counter buyer a or sell to buyer b but the first one to pay gets it.

I believe no offer or counter offer is binding until the buyer pays because the item remains available for anyone to buy.

I would counter with the same price offer of at least 50 to both.  First one that accepts and pays gets it.

I was willing to sell for $40 but this offer of $45 comes out of the blue.  I think if I wait I could get the $60 but I'd rather sell and move on.   I'm going to five the $30 offer a $49 counter and if he doesn't take it, I'll accept the $45 offer.

But then you run the risk that neither will accept your offer. Their offers might have been the maximum that they were willing to pay.  Hence,  countering only one of the offers.

That brings up another question which you implied:  If you make a counteroffer and buyer does not accept, there is no way to give in and sell to buyer's last offer?

Its all a gamble.  Ultimately its up to you the seller.  But I don't always fall for a low offer.  Not to mention, any item I have with offers active are either auto accepted or auto declined.  I don't have it set for me to get involved unless they put a message in the offer.

You had two make offers.  Obviously people are interested.  That is my take, hence my suggestion.  Hit them both with 48?  *shrug

When a counteroffer is made, the previous offer expires and can no longer be accessed.

Can the Buyer offer $40 again?

Me I take the $45.00 offer and run. Unless I paid $50.00 for the item. Bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush!

LOL, while I'm trying to figure out how this all works (I was going to take the $45), someone else bot the lot for the BIN price.  All this stuff I'm selling is personal property - I'm 72, not in good health, so it's time to get rid of everything.  GM & High Tech Performance magaziners are a pretty hot car mag.  (as is Turbo & High Tech Performance)
