Seller did not change address??

I got this message today, AFTER I sent the item. I sent an item today, because Monday is a Holiday. What should I advise this person to do? I told her she should email the USPS and gave her some links. I do not feel that there is any more than I can do. Any other suggestions??

Copy of the mesage : "Hi. I just realized that I never changed my address. I don't live in West Orange. I need the item. What can we do? I've now updated my address in eBay."

Re: Seller did not change address??

Well, it's not ebay where she needs to update the address but PayPal if that's how she paid.

Depending on the value of the item, you might want to pay the $12/13 to intercept the package and have it returned to you.
Reality is the leading cause of stress.

It isn't even worth that much

Re: Seller did not change address??

Just tell her to file a forwarding order with her post office (which she should have done anyway when she moved). I believe she can do it on-line. (?)

Failing that, then she needs to get in contact with whoever's at that address now. This is not your problem, but sending her the relevant USPS links may at least be helpful.

Yeah, that is what I did. Sent her all the information from USPS. Geez. These buyers are sometimes mindless.

If you just sent it today, call the 1-800 number at USPS and see if you can get the package recalled back to you.  It should have not traveled too far.

Tell her you will cancel the listing with problem with address and refund her.  She needs to change the address in paypal.

Once she does that, relist and she can repurchase and then you will send it out to new address.

Re: Seller did not change address??

Even though we only get mail 6 days a week. it never stops going from destination to destination.

Ad if I remember correctly the 1-800 number is 24/7.

Re: Seller did not change address??

Looks like you did everything you could. It happens to all of us. I don't think eBay/PP could be any clearer about the address issue the way it comes up yet buyers do this quite often. 🙂

Thanks. That is good to know. It has only happened to me one other time, but that woman did not really KNOW her address. It DID get to her location

Worst-case scenario in a case like that would be for her to just pick the nearest post office and arrange for a General Delivery address there. She would show her ID and collect her mail whenever they're open. Our local PO has a cabinet behind the counter for General Delivery mail, and every now and then I see a clerk rooting around in there to find something for a customer.

According to a USPS press release from a few years ago, which has a useful summary of how to set up alternate mail delivery for various situations, General Delivery is good for 30 days. After that, I imagine they'd want you to set up a more permanent arrangement such as a PO Box.

Re: Seller did not change address??

So, I tried to get her to help herself. She didn't do it. The package was refused today and is now being returned to me.

Here is what her response was when I told her and sent her the tracking information.

"My address is wrong. I do not live in West Orange. The package was refused and being sent back. Can it be intercepted and e re-routed? "  Then she proceeded to give me the proper address.

I cannot help her anymore. She Needs to help herself

What else to do??

Thanks

Re: Seller did not change address??

Why not ask her if she wants it reshipped at her expense? If she does, send a PayPal invoice & reship after you get the item back.

Re: Seller did not change address??

Sorry your buyer did not change her address.

How frustrating!

And she needs to update her ship to address in Paypal, too.

You have done all you should have needed to do.  Ebay has trained buyers to expect the Sellers to do basically everything for them now and many just feel it is your time and effort that should be wasted on this issue.  When the item comes back deal with it however you feel is best whether that be refund her money and relist the item, or allow her to pay additional shipping cost to get the item reshipped to her.  Personally I would probably refund less the shipping cost and relist the item and add that person to my BBL, but that is just me as I do not have time for those that will not help themselves.
