I kinda get the masks, but Hand Sanitizer? Disinfectant Wipes? Seems a little over the top/big brother. Those are normal everyday supplies for most people, unlike the masks....

Ebay sure doing a good job allowing listings still up 3 days later? So by their own hand they are going to allow higher gouging of prices by making people think if they dont get them on ebay they cant get them anywhere now since everywhere is sold out and ebay is banning sales next.
What a fluster cuck.
Round of applause.
Good Grief.
I don't know why there are still a few up. But 1,000's and 1,000's and 1,000's of listing are not. I get 45 listings when I search disposable surgical masks. Last time I looked yesterday there was about 150 listings.
I guess we could ask someone from Ebay to address your concern as they would have the more accurate info than I would.
Hi @mam98031, we are in the process of proactively removing these listings from site. Newly listed items will be reviewed and taken down when they are reviewed. Members are also welcome to report items that are not currently allowed on the site for review.

@cynthealee2 wrote:As a COPD sufferer we had a box or 2 of the plain masks in the house before this nonsense started. My youngest comes home frequently from school with "the crud" I make her wear the stupid things anytime she is in the same room with me. If we run out of the things before Wal-mart gets em restocked and hubby can get em home I'm going end up becoming a hermit in my own home... OR make the kids and hubby wear bandannas if they have to come close to me for something.
My oldest works with the home bound and elderly when he got sick he wasn't allowed to come see momma. I sent him care packages through Hubby dropping them off at his door to his apartment LOL. (didn't want hubby to bring it home either)
I unfortunately taught my children to 'share' just a little to well, and now is not the time to land in the hospital cause the kids 'shared'.
I got a doc appointment in a few weeks, I'm seriously thinking of calling and trying to get them to just call in the meds for my nebulizer so I don't have to go out in public till this things dies down.
COPD is a horrible disease. I'm very sorry you are having to deal with that. I lost my mother to that disease just a couple years ago. I cared for her in her final years and I could see first hand how difficult and challenging it was.
This isn't "nonsense". It is a health crisis and some want to take advantage of it and make money off of the misery and fears of others.
FYI, not all face masks are created equal. Some just will not do the job of keeping the virus out or in as the case may be. Nor will a scarf on someone's face. The molecules are small and will get through, so make sure you do your research on how to best protect yourself as it is likely what you are currently doing isn't suitable for your needs.
I think it's nonsense to take the fears of others and buy up cases of stuff they personally are not going to use in order to either hoard it OR try to make gawd awful amounts of money on it, and then get all bent out of shape when they can't.
While I am well aware that face masks nor scarfs are built the same it can't HURT and it's what I got and it is sure better than nothing. Considering I already keep all but one member of my family 4-5 ft from me at all times, and the one allowed near me during flu season has chapped hands from washing so often and IF she gets sick the rest put my stuff outside the door, and a few hours later I go pick it up. Best I can do... if it doesn't work then I guess it was my time to go... hey at least I won't have to deal with MP. 😋😉

eBay's headquarters is based in California and subject to California Law. California's anti-price gouging statute, Penal Code Section 396, prohibits raising the price of many consumer goods and services by more than 10% after an emergency has been declared. Local laws may also contain their own prohibitions on price gouging.
In addition, CA Attorney General issued a price gouging consumer alert following coronavirus State of Emergency. I am happy to see that action is being taken.
I was wondering when someone was going to mention this. If complaints get filed, Ebay is the one blamed, and Ebay doesn't want, or need, that.
California
- Selling commodities, household essentials, fuel, etc. after a declared state of emergency for more than 10% over the cost of these items immediately preceding the declaration.
- Misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 yr. in jail and/or up to a $10,000 fine; civil penalties of up to $2,500 per violation (plus injunction and restitution).
Note that's PER VIOLATION.
I wonder how many tens of thousands of violations have occurred since CA declared a state of emergency...
Yeah, and that's just for pricing violations. They could also get slapped with violations for false claims about items preventing you from getting sick. I think the potential penalties eBay could have faced because of sellers not complying with policy were too great to risk which is why they banned these items outright.

Re: banning hand sanitizer listings , Ebay needs to understand that just because there was price gouging going on, not everyone was gouging. I BIN'd some 8oz bottles for $5 with free shipping. If that is price gouging I don't know what to say. Two dollars over retail, oh my. A couple days later the ended listing is now deleted so I couldn't leave any feedback. Why does an ended listing also need to be removed? SMH.
I am in the hard-hit Seattle-Kirkland area where you cannot find hand sanitizer anywhere.
Buyers, like me will happily pay an inflated price (within reason) because it's either that or nothing.
Ebay trying to protect me from the evil price gougers does not help the situation one bit.
Let the buyer decide how much they are willing to spend for an item that is not available anywhere.
Off my soapbox,

I have not read or heard of Ebay ever saying that, only posters on threads. So clearly this is an assumption that some posters are making. And it isn't likely to be true if we look at Ebay's history.

Or move to wearing gloves or making your own sanitizer. FYI I'm in the Puget Sound area too.

You need to take this up with the lawmakers of various states. Ebay is just trying to comply with the laws on price gouging in many states.
Look I get it. There were many sellers that were acting responsibly when selling this type of stuff on the internet. However those that feel they are entitled to make as much money as they can when we are literally in a State of Emergency is what spoiled it for the responsible people.
And this is NOT just happening on Ebay.

what if i needed this product and was willing to pay the price on them... high or low? That should be a consumer decision...
What about homebound individuals that count on eBay more than anyone else...? There are people that cannot get out to buy this stuff if they need to.

The thing to keep in mind that if these online sellers weren't buying up all the stock to sell at inflated rates, your local stores would likely have inventory. And if they had inventory, normal shopping sites like Walmart, Target, etc. would have them too.
Besides it is illegal to do this in many states. Which is why Ebay needed to do this. They have to comply with the laws.

People will do anything to take advantage of this virus health scare. The listings extend beyond hand sanitizers masks and wipes. I just saw this listing for a Lysol Spray can from 1998. eBay is going to need to go after those gouging on all disinfectants.

So true and why would anyone want an expired spray can. Expired chemicals can be dangerous as they degrade over time.
Laundry detergent — six to 12 months
Fabric softener — one year
Multisurface cleaners — two years
Cleaners with antibacterial ingredients — one year
Disinfectants — two years
Dishwasher detergent — three months
Dish soap — 12 to 18 months

Many buyers will go to other products and there is huge gouging for all forms of antibacterial products. Liquid and sprays of Lysol, Mr. Clean, Clorox and etc.

Just get gloves. While some are price gouging on them, there are many responsible sellers selling them at a normal price. Just make sure when you take them off that you start from the wrist and pull forward letting them go inside out so you don't touch the surface of the glove.

I think ebay should allow these items as long as they are auctions that start at 99 cents
