Seller Update: Masks, Hand Sanitizer and Wipes now banned?

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/UPDATE-Important-information-about-listings-associated-w...

I kinda get the masks, but Hand Sanitizer?  Disinfectant Wipes?  Seems a little over the top/big brother.  Those are normal everyday supplies for most people, unlike the masks....

Am willing to list my sanitizer and wipes in auction starting at 99 cents. How does that make me a price gouger?

It doesn't.

The buyers set the price in an auction.

general reply -

According to the World Health Organization website, anti-bacterial products do not kill viruses anyway, so that's kind of a non-starter. The hand sanitizer is effective if it's at least 60% alcohol.

Re: Seller Update: Masks, Hand Sanitizer and Wipes now banned?

And I just found "1,333 results for hand sanitizer"
I fail to see the point of constantly querying how many new listings have appeared and how many eBay has managed to shut down. It looks to be an on going process. I must be missing something - why are people constantly checking the numbers?

Re: Seller Update: Masks, Hand Sanitizer and Wipes now banned?

They removed my auction for hand sanitizer (didn't gouge - charged less than my cost) and I never used any of the flu buzz words.

Yet, I see a TON of listings with sanitizers.  Don't get it.

As a COPD sufferer we had a box or 2 of the plain masks in the house before this nonsense started.  My youngest comes home frequently from school with "the crud" I make her wear the stupid things anytime she is in the same room with me.  If we run out of the things before Wal-mart gets em restocked and hubby can get em home I'm going end up becoming a hermit in my own home... OR make the kids and hubby wear bandannas if they have to come close to me for something.

My oldest works with the home bound and elderly when he got sick he wasn't allowed to come see momma. I sent him care packages through Hubby dropping them off at his door to his apartment LOL.  (didn't want hubby to bring it home either)

I unfortunately taught my children to 'share' just a little to well, and now is not the time to land in the hospital cause the kids 'shared'.

I got a doc appointment in a few weeks, I'm seriously thinking of calling and trying to get them to just call in the meds for my nebulizer so I don't have to go out in public till this things dies down.

COPD is a horrible disease.  I'm very sorry you are having to deal with that.  I lost my mother to that disease just a couple years ago.  I cared for her in her final years and I could see first hand how difficult and challenging it was.

This isn't "nonsense".  It is a health crisis and some want to take advantage of it and make money off of the misery and fears of others.

FYI, not all face masks are created equal.  Some just will not do the job of keeping the virus out or in as the case may be.  Nor will a scarf on someone's face.  The molecules are small and will get through, so make sure you do your research on how to best protect yourself as it is likely what you are currently doing isn't suitable for your needs.

This is a mistake that many sellers seem to be making.  The Ebay announcements says NOTHING about only removing listings that are deem to be price gouging.  The announcement says they are removing them all.

I see a few sellers that are persistent about listing these banned products.  They are risking getting their selling accounts sanctioned by doing this.

Here is the announcement in case anyone hasn't had the opportunity to read through it.

Re: Seller Update: Masks, Hand Sanitizer and Wipes now banned?

Thank you  for this helpful information . I do feel a bit sorry for the sellers who were already selling  face masks, hand sanitizer and  disinfectant wipes before the viral outbreak and were not price gouging . Seems a bit unfair to the general  public  as well  who may indeed need these things .. I really don't understand the logic .  Tulips

I'm just glad I didn't pick up a bunch of those cute Easter bunny vinyl bag clips with the 1 oz sanitizer for resale.

@bar-29368  @merleloveshandbags

Thank you for the information.  It is important to keep in mind that Ebay has not banned ALL face masks but N95/N100 Surgical masks.

Hand santizier search returns is mostly NOT the actual sanitizer gell but soaps, holders and other stuff.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=hand+santizer&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDes...

Add in the word Gel and you get this.  Again most are not the actual gel but holders, dispensers and stuff.

And wipes, I just used that one word to capture anything out there.  Most are not the antibacterial / sanitizing wipes.  Most are baby wipes and other things associated with that.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xwipes.TRS0&_n...

Still Ebay has a little work to do as there are banned items still on the site.  And new ones getting listed, so the program to block them needs a little adjustment.

Re: Seller Update: Masks, Hand Sanitizer and Wipes now banned?

Effective immediately, eBay will block new listings and start to remove listings that sell:

  • Masks including N95/N100 and surgical masks

Doesn't look like they distinguish between them.

Good point.

We all need to keep in mind that these lesser quality masks are not likely good enough to even work for the purpose those buying them want them to work for.

So you are right.  Ebay would have to keep a watchful eye on those that are price gouging on those too because the general public may not be aware that they aren't good enough quality to filter out the virus.
