Seller Recourse

Hi, I wonder if a more experienced seller can educate me. I sold a poster 2 months ago. I have pictures of it being in mint condition. I listed no returns. EBAY has the money back guarantee of 30 days I believe. All of a sudden 2 months later the buyer wants a refund and states it has a crease through the middle. I declined the return but he now has a claim with his credit card company and EBAY has a negative dollar amount on my account. If this poster was not correct when you received it why wait 2 months? I can't take it back if he ruined it and resell it. I don't know if he ruined it or is having buyers remorse but does anybody have my back? What recourse do I have? Am I out my money and my merchandise? Is there no time limit and can buyers just get away with this?

Re: Seller Recourse

Before declining the return, you need to inform eBay through the customer service number.  Explain your situation and get one of the customer service reps to tell you the next step.

Just declining a refund without any eBay involvement puts the system running eBay on the buyer's side.

I would tell the buyer that you will refund the order "Once the item is returned properly".  If it arrives damaged, then you should probably offer a partial refund - I mean, you DO have something, it's just damaged.

The 60 day return is legitimate.   All sellers should intend to please buyers more or less unconditionally, but keep a close eye on what you have traded for the buyer's money before authorizing any return.

Re: Seller Recourse

If they went to their CC company then they will not be required to send item back that is why they do it that way and they know ebay will do nothing

Re: Seller Recourse

Again nice to here from employees and cheerleaders how this fraud was brought to you yet all your fault just do whatever a dishonest buyer wants let them ruin or keep your item send back empty box or junk items whatever works for them and smile and accept it. Ebay promotes this type of activity by allowing this to go on. If this was costing ebay or their supporters money and merchandise then they would deal with it.

Since the buyer went through their credit card, there isn't much Ebay will do now.

Have a great day.

Sometimes it's better to take the return before it gets that far.

Have a great day.

Re: Seller Recourse

All of the information about the Money Back Guarantee, Paypal refunds and credit card chargebacks is available in the Seller Information Center.

It's very important that all sellers read and understand this data, preferably before they begin selling on eBay. At least that way, the seller is well informed of the risks he may be taking.

What is the customer service number? I can't find anyway to have a conversation with EBAY.

Easiest ebay scam to pull off and there are zero repercussions.

Just be glad it is the only time so far.

Re: Seller Recourse

Was your policy in the listing No Returns?

@fab_finds4u

Actually, that doesn't matter here.  The buyer is no longer covered by eBays MBG. Even if the seller accepted returns, they are not required to do so after 30 days.   The MBG was so OVER after two months.

How long is a seller required to "accept" returns to MAYBE get their item back and to PERHAPS avoid a payment dispute?   Two months?  Six months? a couple of years?

Where I sell now it is THREE DAYS, then it is a final sale.  No worries about chargebacks if the buyer loses a SNAD or they don't file for a return within the three day window.

Why should a buyer file an eBay claim at all?  They would have to return SOMETHING at the very least.  Best deal is to go directly for a PAYMENT DISPUTE.

Re: Seller Recourse

First off we cannot see it to determine if in fact it has creases. Secondly you should have taken the return, you now are forced to pay your bank funds and take a defect on your ebay account. At least you now have more experience on handling returns.

My grandma always said, "Experience is something you get just after  you need it." Still rings true...

Re: Seller Recourse

I'm wondering how long Adyen will allow ebay to get away with so many CC disputes before they start putting their foot down and charging more - which, of course, will cause an increase in seller fees ...........

Let him know the window has closed and you do not believe him. You will be proceeding with theft charges against him filed in his hometown

Re: Seller Recourse

It DOES matter if their policy is no returns or not. It is a chargeback now which can occur months later when buyer protection has expired. eBay has no choice but to accept a credit card chargeback. If the seller accepts returns the credit card company may have them return it first.  If they see the seller at any point is refusing to accept a return or voluntarily refund when the buyer asked for a refund the seller is SOL getting their item back.
